RE: EU Plastic Deposit System: Austria now has more than 200,000 people retrieving plastic bottles that others have already thrown away in garbage and recycling bins. What a waste of human resources.

In my Province of BC in Canada there has been a deposit incentive for almost 20 years encouraging the return of beverage containers; aluminum can, beer can, PET plastic, glass, and tetra box for 10 cents CAD each container. In recent years there has been an added 7 cents CAD added as a non-refundable Handling fee. We have 78% recovery, however there are times in BC the recycling materials demand is so low and oversupplied that BC ended up incinerating the stock. One clear benefit is that the deposit system created a 'Binning' sector providing an extra nontaxable income for those on Social Assistance income.
