The part about leaving a comfortable life behind really stayed with me, a renovated house, good jobs, and still choosing to start over somewhere new with a small child takes guts. And that hitchhiking memory during the bombing nights is hard to read, it explains so much about why hope mattered when things finally changed. Do you think that hope lasted, or did it fade faster than you expected once the new reality set in?
What hope?
Ha, fair question honestly. I meant the hope that the big change would fix things, the one that kept people going through the hard years. Did any of it survive the new reality, or did it wear off fast?
