Mammoth is right next to Yosemite, it's one of those places you have to go.
I was in that area and went to Yosemite as a kid (1960's). I was pretty young though so don't remember a whole lot. I'm about 10 hours away in Oregon now so it sounds like it would be a good road trip. :)
