My system is simple-- every day we make around 6 transactions-- sometimes more, sometimes less. Some of those are income, if you work some hours, but 'earned income' which you don't get until later after taxes are paid on it. One daily transaction could be 'Hours worked = 8.5' (+), and I will write it on an index card. I put all my receipts in an envelope, and in a zipper pencil case.
This 'paper' system does not need computers. Yes this could all just be done automatically, and that is what I am working towards, when I use my credit card for most monthly purchases, and put more money towards my credit card each month. But for now, the focus has to be putting all cash on the card to pay debt off. It's too easy to spend $20 today, on a bag of chips and sugar drinks. Don't knock the Pop but I want to be financially carefree, which means staying on top of things.
Every 'snack' is a penalty against your future goals! $20/week is $1060 ! $20 a day is $7,300, so if we have some perspective we can see it's rarely a matter of not having enough money, but more an issue of allocating money when you have it to the proper places. Payments to your credit card each week, should reflect the following week, allowing more available credit. For one year, if I can put all my 'cash' to card, I will pay off my balance and improve my credit for sure, and reduce my stress.
I am just being honest here and blogging about my solutions; Tracking my expenses/income daily without needing a computer to do it. Being aware of the small steps that my larger goal requires, and staying true to my plan by staying consistent. Putting into practice the things I know I need to do, and taking action quickly and swiftly once an idea is considered thoughtfully and a decision is made. Weighing each purchase by considering how it takes me away from the path, towards my goal.
Also, taking calculated risks and following through to ensure a profitable return. By keeping a close eye on every transaction's cost-profit value I can make adjustments along the way, and see my progress towards collecting the data that I need. How much will I earn in 2025? How much will I spend? Did I earn a profit? If not, where did the profit go, and were those things worth the loss? How much debt will I have at the end of 2025?
Tracking Relative values is a hobby of mine, value over time. (Time: V1, V2, V3..) I have been very casually tracking in a spreadsheet for the past two years, the relative values of some of the currencies I pay attention to.
Bitcoin is up [+164.82% since Nov 16 2023], up +$82,934.84 CAD to $133,253.53 CAD. Hive has done well the past month, up [+51.36% vs the Loonie], but since 2022 is still down -17.07%. Hive and HBD vs Bitcoin since 2022 is a loss, [-608.64% and -485.46%], but likewise since October 2024 [Hive is up 2.48% vs BTC], but HBD is down [-42.82% vs BTC]. What does that mean?
Well it looks like BTC is still the best asset to hold. When BTC is going up, HIVE and HBD are less attractive, but when BTC is going down, HIVE and HBD are great to hold! You can make your own financial decisions, I am just pondering these observations I have been making about relative values. Let me share a few more details.
ZEC is up [+88.68% since 2023], ETH [+80.82% since 2023] and even Gold [+38.9% since 2022] have performed well against the Loonie. We must be crazy in Canada!
Gold (1), Bitcoin (7) and Silver (9) are top assets in 2024. [Ethereum (26)] Since October 2024 the Loonie is down [-10.38% vs USD], [-16.43% vs Copper], [-42.39% vs BTC] but has gone up [+9.39% vs Silver] since the price of Silver has dropped [-10.38% since October 20 2024]. Trying to keep track of all these changes in relative values over time really exercises the brain!
Overall, my main goal for 2025 is to get completely out of debt. You?
