The birthday gift thing is something I don't try to get hope on, or make promise about.
That is why, anytime I'm having my birthday celebrations, I don't hope to get anything at all because I wouldn't be able to reciprocate to the standard. Funny enough, I do give out more too during people's birthday and I don't expect to get anything in return during mine.

That's actually the best because expectations can lead to unrealistic standards and unnecessary pressures.
