I'd say when chatGPT 5 hits and gets applied to science, we are going to start to see some of what you are suggesting. ChatGPT still isn't even true AI, it is just a language model, but even at the current level it can read and consume far more than any human alive and has more of an ability to make connections where none of us see anything. As soon as the logic engine gets a little better (and reportedly ChatGPT 5 is much much better), but we're going to see some amazing things.
As always, I don't think the danger of AI is terminator. Morality and ethics are universal, so I think even if a mad scientist comes along and tries to teach AI to "kill all humans", AI itself will see that is unethical behavior and will override it. Eventually I think AI gets integrated with government to make a truly fair system. But until we get to that point, the real danger is the capitalists who seek to use AI to replace all humans, putting us out of work with no safety net and no ability to survive in a uber-capitalist world.
Yeah, that makes sense. I think a lot of people aren't thinking big enough or far enough in the future. It's just what is easy now or right in front of them and they can't quite wrap their head around where this could all be going.
