Harvesting Cherry Blossoms!
The flowers are blooming! Today is a beautiful day: the sun is shining, it's warm and the flowers are in full bloom. Especially our decorative cherry tree!
When we learned that there is big demand for dried cherry blossom flowers, we decided this year to harvest a batch and put them in the dehydrator.
The flowers are beautiful and they smell amazing. The girls were commenting about how their hands smelled like cherry-blossom flowers - sort of like a mild almond / cherry scent.
Even our littlest one is helping out by stopping and smelling the flowers.
We collected two large bowls full of flowers. Once they dehydrate, they'll loose most of their volume and weight. But hopefully, that delicious scent will still remain.
We plan on mixing it with loose tea - and we may look into making an etsy page. We found a seller who is offering dried cherry blossoms for $14 / oz.
I was very pleased with the diligent effort that the children put into this project. The tree is still full of blossoms, so there will be more picking during the week. I wonder how many ounces we'll have when they're dried?
What a fun activity to do with the children before leaving for the week, this evening!
