The supervisor lied for your mentor because he was protectign his job. However your mentor thought it was better to not complicate things by also lying. Lying takes too much effort and scheming. Things could have gone entirely wrong if the supervisor was a mean person.

My mentor didn’t go with the lie because he said he didn’t want to compromise..he told the truth to their supervisor and everything was ok. He wasn’t in support of the lie.
