People Need about 48 HP in Order to Receive Curation Rewards

avatar

The upvote rewards on HIVE come from interest on HIVE POWER. The value of a given upvote depends on the HP, the User's Voting Power at the time of the upvote and the size of the reward pool.

Each upvote reduces one's voting power by 2%. Voting power regenerates at 20% a day. This means one gets 10 upvotes a day.

Half of the reward goes to the author of the post and half of the reward goes to the curator.

The minimum curation reward is 0.001. If your upvote is worth less than 0.002; you will not receive curation rewards.

PeakD.com is one of best interfaces for HIVE. It lets users examine the wallets of other users. The activity page on PeakD includes curation rewards. The following link shows my activities page. Replace the word yintercept with your account name to see your rewards.

https://peakd.com/@yintercept/activities

About half way down the page on right side, there is a little checkbox followed by the word "curation." Click that box and the page shows only curation rewards.

My account has about 4900 HP. I usually upvote 100% and my voting power is usually over 9%%. My curation rewards currently average about 0.115 per post. Note, I upvote comments at just 20% of my Voting Power.

The size of one's rewards varies. A general rule is that one gets 0.001 for every 48 HP in their account.

You can check different wallets and you will see this amount seems to hold true.

0.001 is a small amount, but it adds up. Voting ten times a day results in 0.01 rewards. Voting 10 times a day for 365 days results in 3.65 HP curation rewards for every 48 HP in one's account. That is 7.6% interest!

The author is getting 7.6% interest and the curator gets 7.6%. That is 15.2% interest.

This is a generous amount for an interest based reward system.

Unfortunately, since the minimum payout is 0.001 HP, most of the curation rewards for accounts with under 48 HP get wiped away as dust.

A few days ago, I examined an account that had only 40HP. Although the person had dropped several hundred upvotes, the user had never received a curation rewards. I was really sad.

The solution is to buy HIVE and power up that HIVE.

I want to go back and point out that curation rewards fluctuate. It varies by one's voting percent and the number of people who upvote a post. If you want to get a reward on every post, you probably want to have 100 HP in your account.

Before continuing. I would like to point out that one never loses HP on HIVE. The value always increases.

The problem is that the price of HIVE itself fluctuates. It could easily drop to a dime. It has in the past. The risk of buying HIVE POWER is that the price of HIVE might drop.

That said, I believe that the best approach to HIVE is to buy enough HIVE POWER so that one has a decent upvote value. You then sell HBD from one's post; hopefully, the amount you sell will be more than the HIVE you acquired.

I borrowed $480 and bought HP just for this reason. I have to pay back that loan.

Alt-Coins to the Rescue

If you want to build your account from scratch. That is you don't want to buy alt-coins. Your best bet is to concentrate on alt coins. The alt coins often have minimum payouts which are substantially lower than 0.001.

If I were a newbie starting an account from scratch. I would choose a Hive Tribe that shared my interests and concentrate on earning the tribe's token. Verify Your Brainium is a new general use forum with a decent payout. I've been enjoying CentBlog. They have a low minimum payout.

The minimum payout on LeoFinance is 0.001 LEO. You need about 2.75 LEO to start getting curation rewards.

The Picture

The picture shows coins on parade. Two pennies follow a Ben Franklin Coin. The middle penny is the wrong color. It might be fake. Franklin did not like the idea of putting the images of political figures on coins, but he did think that people should look after their pennies..

What an interesting article, especially for newbies. It makes it all the more important for those who are more long-standing on the blockchain to support new Hivers by providing delegations to get them going. This is something that I am trying to do myself as I recognise and relate to the struggle. It was only when I was helped with a delegation that I was enabled to do what I love: engage with others and support them. Before that, I would run out of VP often. I hope more people look to give others a helping hand up onto the blockchain as not everybody can afford the initial investment to get going. !PIZZA !ALIVE

I've been trying to figure out how to explain to users that they need to buy HIVE to enjoy their experience on HIVE. This argument begs the question: How much HIVE should one buy?

The observation about the curation reward seems to answer the question. One needs to have enough HP to get the curation rewards.

I think the observation about the minimum curation rewards helps answer the question.

I took a picture of the upvote bar in LEO. If the minimum curation reward is 0.001 LEO, then this bar needs to show at least 0.002 to get the curation reward.

PS: I've been upvoting comments at 20%. This upvote should split 0.013 LEO between our accounts.

😊Yes I thought how you explained it was really nice and clear and extremely helpful. Explaining a concept in terms that a beginner to the chain can understand is not always an easy task but you aced it!

The middle penny is not fake. During WWII, copper was far too valuable to war production to waste it minting coinage, so in '43 the US minted a ton of steel pennies as a stop-gap. They do have alright collector's value now, but so many were made, it's not as much as you might expect.

When I was a kid, I saved all of the Wheaties that I found thinking that they were something special. I suspect that, in a hundred years, a wheatie will have the same value as any other copper penny. I think the steel pennies are the only pennies I have with any numismatic value.

Interestingly, the War Nickels seem to be in high demand. A War Nickel is worth like a buck fifty right now.

I'm going to be keeping my 1904 Indian Head Cent, the melt value is 0.03$ but the coin is worth a few dollars.

Thanks for this. I am not that long into being active with Hive. To be honest I had not really grasped the tribe concept apart from putting some tags on my posts. Bookmarking this and will explore, thanks for the link to the list of tribes and tokens and tagwords etc!

I assume that you have the Hive Keychain installed. You should never log in to any account with your HIVE keys.

The tribes supplement HIVE rewards with alt-coins. You can trade your alt-coins on exchanges. This includes

https://hive-engine.com/

https://tribaldex.com/

https://leodex.io/

The exchanges are interfaces to the Hive-Engine blockchain and operate in a similar fashion.

SWAP.HIVE is the base currency of Hive-Engine Exchange. The deposit and withdraw buttons let you move your HIVE in and out of the image. There is a 1% fee on deposits and withdraws.

The rest of the transactions are free.

I looked at your Hive Engine account on Peakd.com

https://peakd.com/@tengolotodo/wallet/hive-engine

What you should do is sell the coins for the tribes that you don't find interesting, then buy and power up the coins for the tribes that you find most interesting.

The monetary value of these coins is so small, that you can really can't make a mistake.

The value of some of the alt-coins are so small as to be negligible. But you can buy thousands of coins for a penny!

Anyway, just sell the coins that you don't find interesting. Buy more of the coins you find interesting.

You will find the vote values of the coins you like increase dramatically.

BTW: Many of the tribes have web sites. I made a list of Tribe Sites on Internet Rivers

I am a newbie in Hive community and I usually upvote 100%, except for the times that my voting power is low. I think that is the best for all the authors here that spente their time and gave their effort for each post.
Thanks for your post. It is explaining a lot.
PS.I haven't really thought of selling tokens (though I did once, as a trial), but I will do so.
Cheers!

I took a gander at your HIVE wallet. Yes, we can see everyone's wallet. It says you have 52 HP. Your upvote value is just a little over 0.002.

The value of your upvote must be over 0.002; So, yes, you should upvote 100%

The activities page shows that you currently receive 0.001 for most of your upvotes. You are probably missing some rewards still.

https://peakd.com/@evaredskin/activities

It says you have 2 HBD. I think it would be wise to go to the HIVE/HBD market and trade that HBD for HIVE and power up the HIVE. Here is the market link

https://wallet.hive.blog/market

You don't seem to be doing much with your alt-coins yet.

I assume you have Hive-Keychain installed. If not, you probably want to install it on your browsers. The keychain lets you access sites without sharing your keys.

The Hive Engine blockchain holds your alt-coin rewards. There are three interfaces to this chain:

https://hive-engine.com

https://tribaldex.com/

and https://leodex.io/wallet

The exchanges let you trade your alt coins for something called SWAP.HIVE. SWAP.HIVE is just the name for HIVE on HIVE-Engine.

There are numerous fun things going on with Hive-Engine. I have over 25 WINEX. My writing !WINE on this reply should give you some WINEX tokens.

The LUV token does the same thing. You only need to by 10 and can start giving out LUV rewards. If you bought 10 LUV tokens, you could share some LUV with your readers.

https://hive-engine.com/?p=market&t=LUV

When CINE gives rewards it gives half in staked form and half in free form. Your wallet shows you have 183 staked CINE and 183 free CINE. You might sell some of the free CINE just so you can play with other coins.

It is up to you. Hive-Engine is all about playing with different tokens.

POB gives all tokens in unstaked form. I would just stake the whole pile of POB. Once you stake your POB, your account will give POB rewards and you will earn POB curation.

Go to https://www.proofofbrain.io/created and click on the vote button for a post. It will probably show that your account does not give #POB. After you stake the POB, your account will start giving POB rewards.

The same is true with LEO. If you staked your LEO, your LEO vote value should be about 0.001 LEO. Their minimum curation reward payout is 0.001 . You don't start getting LEO rewards until you have staked about 22 LEO.

Hive Engine is all about building communities and trading coins. It is a good place to learn how to trade equities. Enjoy the !WINE

I did experience this. Happy to be here.
Nice to learn the 48HP minimum and how to appropriate a better upvote process.
