My April 2024 HIVE Recap

mayday.jpg

I like to end the month by tallying up my coins. I asked NightCafe to generate an image of kids dancing around a MayPole as I am publishing this post on May Day.

The really big news for April is that The Learn to Code Tribe launched the BYTE Coin to encourage posts about coding.

So, for the last 30 days, I've popped out of bed to write a post about coding.

As I write the post I start remembering the vicious things that I've seen people say about different coding styles.

Styles change. The things that coder obsess over today are different from the things they complained about a decade ago.

I then start watching videos and reading the latest tutorials.

By the end of the day, I am depressed and I delete the post I was writing.

The problem is that there are usually hundreds of different ways to solve a problem. Many of the ways are logically equivalent. Sadly, online forums tend to be full of trolls who will rip at people for inconsequential things. For example lets look at two code fragments

if (test) {
  // do something
}

and

if (test)
{
  // do something
}

The code fragments are the logically the same thing. But one will often find code warriors marching into battle over the placement of that first curly bracket.

There are thousands of these absurd points. I really don't care about the placement of the curly bracket. I always just adopt the coding style of my most recent boss.

One should concentrate on logic not style. I've just had so many bad experiences through the years that I find it better to remain silent.

But Let's Tally Up the Empire

This post is about tallying up my HIVE Empire. It appears that my HIVE empire grew by 74,142 Coins from 1,844,636 Coins to 1,918,808 Coins. Sadly, the reported value of my empire dropped by $837.89 from $3,123.18 to $2,285.29.

The chart show my account growth since August 2021. When I started my account has 361,869 coins. It was worth $2,216. Today I am pushing 2 million coins. The reported value of the account is $2,285. I lost a lot in HIVE Engine.

The light grey line shows the reported value. The blue line shows the reported value minus funds I borrowed to fund the account.

Watching the HIVE Tribes collapse has been sad.

When the witnesses raised the interest on HBD to 20%, I thought about liquidating all of my HE coins and putting everything in HBD. I didn't and lost a few thousand dollars.

HE coins simply cannot compete with HBD. Because HBD dwarfs the interest on other HIVE projects, anyone stupid enough to develop programs for HIVE or HE will lose their shirt.

One trick I play is that I put my earnings in HBD when the price of HBD is above $0.4. I start liquidating my HBD when the price drops below $0.35. I would not be surprised to see HIVE drop to $0.25 in the near future.

I feel bad about this trick because the trick puts a downward pressure on the price of HIVE.

My HE Income

I've been curious about my weekly income on HIVE. I made a page to track my weekly curation income for different coins. I only list my best coins. It looks like I am making about $3.67 a week income on HIVE.

The trickle in income that I make disappears because the price of HIVE keeps dropping.

None of the coins in the HIVE-O-Sphere can compete with HBD. It is foolish to put money in anything other than HBD.

I invest in the other coins because I like to support people.

I do not invest in HBD because HBD doesn't do anything. HBD is simply debt for the sake of debt and debt kills.

Anyway. Here is my monthly table. I have multiple accounts. My personal account is @yintercept. I created accounts for projects that I never launched as I realized that HE was destined to collapse. I use them for curation @irivers curates STEM, @idoodle curates CCC. @vagabondspirit was curating FOODIE. I was kicked out of the FOODIE tribe.

I kept my SteemIt Account Alive. I also ended up with a BLURT account. I upped my BLURT count to 5000 BLURT. This appears to be the minimum BLURT needed so that one's upvote is worth more than the cost of the upvote.

I list coins from my Steem-Engine Account to remind myself that blockchains can disappear.
I bought shares in Diesel Pools. Diesel pools are pairs of coins. The number of coins change as people use the pools. The pools have a reported value of $9.26.

  • BYTE:STEM 9311.434: Contains 19641.733 BYTE and 4417.715 STEM
  • PHOTO:MEME 2,516.248: Contains 1,014.829 PHOTO and 6,509.806 MEME

I have a pile of NFTs that I value at zero.

Don't give up on the Hive engine tokens just yet, it only takes one to succeed. I think leo still has the most potential outside Hive. Keep stacking. I believe there is light at the end of the tunnel

I don't use LEO threads. The interest I receive for LEO dropped to 1% a year.

One really strange thing happened after the release of the latest version of LEO is that my HIVE earnings dropped by 20%. I was earning 10 HIVE a week on 5555 HP. I am now lucky to get 8 HIVE a week 5950 HP.

LEO threads lets the whales harvest the pool with short form posts. Since the rewards pools is fixed, long form posts have seen a major drop in earnings.
