Interessant ist in diesem Zusammenhang, dass die Soldaten nicht nur den Vorgesetzten ihre Treue schwören müssen, sondern auch ausdrücklich dem Präsidenten der Vereinigten Staaten (Donald Trump), das kommt ausdrücklich im Gelöbnistext vor. Und es gibt auch eine Referenz an Gott, was für ein säkulares Land ungewöhnlich ist.

During the big military parade in Washington DC, new soldiers were also sworn in. This was an opportunity to hear the wording of the American oath of allegiance.
It is interesting to note that soldiers must swear allegiance not only to their superiors, but also explicitly to the President of the United States (Donald Trump), which is explicitly stated in the oath text. There is also a reference to God, which is unusual for a secular country.

This is not correct, it’s to the constitution. The president is the commmander and chief so he is the top of chain of command so they obviously need to follow the orders by president who is elected by the people. But the actual oath is not to the president. It’s to the constitution. It’s pretty clear these are two separated things in oath.
In a democracy, the president is the representative of all citizens, whether we like it or not.
After all, he is the commander in chief.

it’s to the constitution, not the president. The oath says that clearly. Of course they must follow orders of the president, the president is the commander & chief at top of chain of command, and is the people’s elected representative. Bit the oath is clear and to the constitution. Respectfully you have misrepresented this in title. It says clearly in post these two statements. No it is not a path to president, it’s to constitution. Than secondly agreeing to the respect chain of command and follow the commander & chiefs orders.

The good old oath of office. I had to make the same oath when I joined the Army as an officer years ago. I spent over twenty years in the reserves and active duty. The US Armed Forces are under command of the president, no matter who it happens to be.
I got to see all sorts of exotic vacation spots in those years, the lovely deserts of Iraq and the beautiful mountain ranges of Afghanistan.
