New state TV tax coming in Austria, where you can no longer opt out. How much do you have to pay for state TV?
Die Regierung plant in Österreich eine neue ORF-Steuer (Haushaltsabgabe) nach deutschem Vorbild, wo man sich nicht mehr abmelden kann.
Bis jetzt konnte man sich vom Staatsfernsehen abmelden, wenn man keinen Fernseher zu Hause hatte. Computer zählten nicht als Fernseher.
Im Laufe der Zeit haben sich Hunderttausende Haushalte abgemeldet.
Jetzt soll eine neue ORF-Zwangsabgabe kommen, von der man sich nicht mehr abmelden kann und die in Wien rund 28 Euro pro Monat ausmacht, mehr als Netflix und Amazon Prime zusammen.
Finde es nicht gerecht, dass man für etwas zahlen muss, das man nicht konsumiert und die Frage ist auch, ob im Internetzeitalter, wo es ein Überangebot an Information und Unterhaltung gibt, ein Staatsfernsehen mit 4 TV-Sendern und 12 Radioprogrammen in dieser Form überhaupt noch gerechtfertigt ist.
Alternative wäre die Finanzierung über das Budget ohne zusätzliche Steuer und die Beschränkung auf den öffentlich-rechtlichen Informationsauftrag.
Einen angedachten Subventions- und Gebühren-Automatismus, bei dem die Gebühr/Subvention aus dem Budget jedes Jahr automatisch inflationsangepasst erhöht wird, halte ich für keine gute Idee.
Was ist, wenn sich das Konsumverhalten ändert und Fernsehen in Zukunft noch weniger relevant wird? Was ist in einer Kriegssituation oder Wirtschaftskrise? Wäre der ORF dann die einzige Institution, die wertgesichert bis in alle Ewigkeit subventioniert wird?
Was meint ihr? Wie hoch ist die Gebühr für das Staatsfernsehen bei euch?

In Austria, the government is planning a new ORF tax (household tax) based on the model in Germany, where you can no longer unsubscribe.
Until now, you could opt out of state television if you didn't have a TV at home. Computers did not count as television sets.
Over time, hundreds of thousands of households have unsubscribed in Austria.
Now gov is going to introduce a new compulsory state TV fee, from which you can no longer unsubscribe and which in Vienna amounts to around EUR 28 per month, more than Netflix and Amazon Prime together.
I don't think it's fair that you have to pay for something you don't consume, and the question is also whether in the Internet age, where there is an oversupply of information and entertainment, state television with 4 TV channels and 12 radio programs in this form is still justified at all.
The alternative would be to finance it through the budget without an additional tax and to limit it to the public service information mandate.
I do not think that an envisaged subsidy and fee automatism, in which the fee/subsidy from the budget is automatically increased every year in line with inflation, is a good idea.
What if consumer behavior changes and television becomes even less relevant in the future? What about in a war situation or economic crisis? Would state TV then be the only institution to be subsidized for eternity on an inflation-protected basis?

That's a lot of money for tv. Surely if they insist on charging the fee, lower the prices !

I don't know if we have a tax like that in Canada. I wouldn't be surprised if we did but I'm just not aware of it. 28 euro per month seems awfully steep for such a tax. I thought that you were going to say like €3 per month or something like that. 28 though, wow!

Eine Verhöhnung der Bürger, für die Propaganda auch noch bezahlen zu müssen.
Es ist weitaus mehr als das, es ist staatlich organisierter Diebstahl. Ein krimineller Akt des Staates gegen seine Bürger mit dem die staatlich organisierte Korruption der Massenmedien zwangsfinaziert werden soll.

Eine Sauerei der Extraklasse, abgekupfert von Deutschland! Aber das war ja schon lange abzusehen. In Deutschland sind es glaub ich 18,50 € im Monat.
Minimal-Widerstand: nicht abbuchen lassen! Maximal-Widerstand: Sich einsperren lassen und so im besten Fall den Märtyrerstatus im Dienst der Sache erlangen.

Bei uns ist es ja schon sowieso schon so. Ganz toll find ich das auch nicht, anderseits finde ich aber öffentliche rechtliche Medien schon wichtig für ein Gleichgewicht. Richtig mies fand ich es nur, als ich noch studiert hab.

Jahrelang wird bereits darüber diskutiert diese gebühr abzuschaffen und jetzt soll sie durch eine zwangsgebühr ersetzt werden?

Jetzt kommt das bei Euch also auch. Eine absolute Frechheit, kein Mensch benötigt das. Es gibt ausreichend Informationsquellen. Das ist nichts weiter als eine weitere Zwangsabgabe oder wie ich es nenne Diebstahl!

In Croatia, we have to pay around 11€ a month for state TV. Even though that same TV is airing TV commercials every 15mins.
Somehow they even managed to lose TV rights for live coverage of some major national sports team.
They lost TV rights for live coverage of national football team, handball team and basketball team. rofl 🤣
This is happening all over the country or even in Pakistan, the government imposes some new tax every day, due to which the people are very worried. Even here it has become so expensive that it has become difficult to live.
We are paying it from a very long time, From more than 10 years, 50 rupees In Pakistani Currency.
I don't have to pay for state TV and I don't think there is a need for it. It's why streaming services exist and the internet can let you see things digitally.
