Difference between Austria and Australia 😂
Österreich wird oft mit Australien verwechselt vor allem im englischsprachigen Raum, da die beiden Länder so ähnlich klingen und geschrieben werden. Sie unterscheiden sich nur durch zwei zusätzliche Buchstaben in der vorletzten Silbe von Australia.
Die 3-stelligen Ländercodes sind AUT (für Austria) und AUS (für Australien).
Die Internet-Domains lauten at und au.
Ist euch das schon mal passiert, dass Österreich mit Australien verwechselt wurde? Ein Paket wurde mal nach Australien geschickt statt nach Österreich, ist dann aber verzögert trotzdem angekommen.

Aber das Deutschland mit Frankreich und Belgien verwechselt wurde. Liebe Grüße an DHL. K.a. wie man es hinbekommt ein Paket, auf dem eine Nationale Paketmarke geklebt ist, (Mit vorgedrucktem "Deutschland" neben dem DHL Logo) auf der am Ende des Empfängers "Deutschland" steht, diese ins Ausland zu verfrachten.
Ok das noch harmlos, aber wie kann man die dort auch noch zustellen?

Nein, ich denke nicht, dass das einem deutsch-sprachigen Menschen schon mal passiert ist, aber in anderen Ländern kann ich mir das gut vorstellen. ;)

yeah i did got confused between the two. haha. it got me thinking how come you can speak german. i even googled the language of australia and austria. haha

Anders gelagert ist die Verwechslungsgefahr, wenn Schweden gegen die Ukraine spielt bei Fans beider Seiten, die sich in den Landesfarben schminken. Selbiges auch bei Österreich gegen Schweiz und vielen anderen möglichen Kombinationen (die Farbkombination rot-weiß ist mit über 20 Nationalflaggen die häufigste weltweit).
Die lettische Flagge kann auch sehr leicht mit der österreichischen verwechselt werden.

The difference is that Austria has a help desk on the airport for people that were supposed to go to Australia but bought the wrong ticket, while Australia does not have a help desk for people that wanted to go to Austria….
Or was it the opposite? 🤔
Ich muss immer wieder doppelt Lesen, um mir sicher zu sein, das ich die beiden Länder nicht verwechsele versehentlich. Passiert ist es mir deswegen eben auch noch nicht. :-)

Yep, die Verwechslung habe ich öfters erlebt und einmal sogar von einem Europäer. Nicht umsonst verkaufen sich denke T-Shirts mit Aufschriften wie z.B. "No Kangoroos in Austria" recht gut.

I have mixed them up before. The spelling is different but it's kind of similar.
Es ist weniger die Ähnlichkeit in der Schreibweise, die mich zeitweise stutzig macht, sondern eher die Sprache. Jährlich bekommen wir Besuch von einer Familie aus Schwaz/Tirol, die noch uralte familiäre Verbindungen seitens der Ehefrau aufrechterhalten.
Wenn Hermann (ein urechter Tiroler) dann bei uns am Tisch Platz nimmt und uns zuerst einmal die Welt richtig erklärt, bin ich mir die erste halbe Stunde nicht ganz sicher, ob es ein Ureinwohner aus dem Outback Australiens oder ein Österreicher aus der Nähe von Innsbruck mir gegenübersitzt?😮😲
Sprachlich scheint es nur minimale Unterschiede zu geben.😉
Was die Verwechslungsgefahr in der Schreibweise betrifft, bist du noch auf der sicheren Seite, da deine Post es dennoch bis zu dir schafft. Gebe ich dagegen an, dass mein Päckchen nach Hrvatska soll, darf ich es sofort als Totalverlust abschreiben.
This is the first time I have heard the name of this other country, I only knew about Australia, but the names of these two countries are very similar.
