Bing Chat vs. Google Bard: This is why Google's presentation was disappointing.

Einen Tag nachdem Microsoft Bing Chat vorgestellt hat, ist Google mit einer hastig einberufenen Pressekonferenz zu Google Bard vorgeprescht.

Google ist Weltspitze im Bereich KI-Forschung und sie haben 2017 sogar das Transformer-Modell erfunden und veröffentlicht, das heute für den Durchbruch bei großen, generativen Text-Modellen verantwortlich ist.

Google befindet sich aber sozusagen im Inventor's Dilemma, als Marktführer bei der Websuche fällt es ihnen offensichtlich schwer, das Produkt radikal weiterzuentwicklen, ohne das eigene Business-Modell zu kannibalisieren.

Und dann wäre noch die Sache mit der Political Correctness (PC).

Bei der Präsentation hatte ich den Eindruck, dass PC mittlerweile für Google wichtiger ist als ein gutes Produkt zu präsentieren.

Die Moderatoren wurden mit Pronouns (Persönliche Fürwörter) vorgestellt und gegendert.

Und dann ging noch einiges schief bei der Präsentation.

Google Bard wurde nur sehr kurz vorgestellt, der Rest der Präsentation drehte sich um Google Lenses und Google Maps. Das Publikum hatte sich mehr Infos zu Bard erwartet.

An einer weiteren Stelle fehlte plötzlich ein Demo-Smartphone und war nicht auffindbar.

Und zum Schluss hat man noch eine übergewichtige Moderatorin ins Rennen geschickt. Ja, das ist sehr oberflächlich, aber im Marketing sind attraktive Verkäufer erfolgreicher. Daran wird auch PC nichts ändern.

Insgesamt war die Präsentation eher enttäuschend.

Und Google hat auch noch die Kommentarfunktion auf YouTube deaktiviert. Cancel Culture.

Trotzdem würde ich Google nicht voreilig abschreiben, da sie im Bereich KI-Forschung führend sind und Bard ähnlich funktionieren wird wie Bing Chat. Inklusiver aller möglichen Filter und Zensur.

Die Frage ist, welche Auswirkungen Bing Chat auf das Geschäftsmodell von Google haben wird, das hauptsächlich auf Werbung basiert.

A day after Microsoft unveiled Bing Chat, Google jumped ahead with a hastily called press conference on Google Bard.

Google is world-class in AI research, and they even invented and released the Transformer model in 2017, which is now responsible for the breakthrough in large-scale generative text models.

Google, however, is sort of in an Inventor's Dilemma, as the market leader in web search, they obviously have a hard time radically evolving the product without cannibalizing their own business model.

And then there's the matter of political correctness (PC).

During the presentation, I got the impression that PC is now more important to Google than presenting a good product.

The presenters were introduced with pronouns and gendered.

And then some things went wrong with the presentation.

Google Bard was only introduced very briefly, the rest of the presentation was about Google Lenses and Google Maps. The audience had expected more info about Bard.

At another point, a demo smartphone was suddenly missing and could not be found.

And at the end, an overweight female presenter was brought in. Yes, that's very superficial, but in marketing, attractive salespeople are more successful. PC is not going to change that.

Overall, the presentation was rather disappointing.

And Google has also deactivated the comment function on YouTube. Cancel Culture.

Still, I wouldn't write Google off too quickly, as they are leaders in AI research and Bard will work similarly to Bing Chat. Including all sorts of filters and censorship.

The question is what impact will Bing Chat have on Google's business model, which is mainly based on advertising.
