Battle Mage Secrets: Little League - Load The Abilities Up

image.png

Prelude
Hi all, hope all is well for you and it is time for another Battle Mage Secrets. Last week, we looked at a ruleset that had been here since the day I started playing Splinterlands where we cannot use melee cards. Today, we look at another long standing ruleset that do another form of restriction on the cards you can use.

Ruleset Spotlight

Little League

Description:

  • Only units and summoners with a mana cost of 4 or less may be used.

What thrives with this ruleset?
Just one simple rule, 4 mana of less. That effectively shave off alot of cards in anybody's collection.

No more Kron Llama, Oshannus, Iziar or all those scary big cards found in the Riftwatchers packs. So all you can depend on is all the small cards that you have that range from 1-4 mana.

There is 1 card that is superb in this ruleset, this card is called Moxian Rebel. This is because it contain the Weapons Training and you can convert cards such as Failed Summoner and Scavo Hireling to gain magic attack. So on top of what the cards by their own is capable of, they now can also attack.

However, I do not own a copy of Moxian Rebel, so I have to depend on other cards and best if all of them have abilities. Abilities such as Protect, Life Leech, Dispel, Triage etc are all awesome. Because cards that are available in 4 mana or less, typically their stats will not be as elaborated as those that are of higher mana. Therefore, abilities will of importance for you to get an edge over your opponent. The more you load, the better your chances of survival or edge over your opponents.

Stats wise, since we are on the low mana region, the higher the stats the better it is. But, if there is a card with really good ability, slightly lower in stats is ok, as a killer ability could just be the right thing to have to win the game.

With these in mind, let's start to talk about the battle proper.

Hill Giant31stOne of the thickest health card that I can find that is in the Little League range
Venari Spellsmith42ndThis is a card that has Dispel and able to knock off any kind of positive buff that your opponent will have.
Queen Mycelia43rdVery nice card that gives Protect to the lineup
Jini Guise44thUpgraded version of Queen Mycelia and also contain Blood Lust to help it grow
Madcap Magus45thThis card is interesting because it has Life Leech which further enhances survivability, something like Life Sapper for Death Splinter
Djinn Biljka36thA card that can keep itself alive by diverting all its attack frontwards.
Total Mana:26

Opponent Lineup

  • Summoner - Obsidian
  • Position 1 - Xenith MOnk
  • Position 2 - Venari Scout
  • Position 3 - Djinn Biljka
  • Position 4 - Madmap Magus
  • Position 5 - Queen Mycelia
  • Position 6 - Raeus.

Prediction before pressing rumble
Interesitingly my opponent with more than just magic attacking cards. Interesting choice but those are the best for Little League.

I ont the other hand, was prepared for it and deployed a Double Protection in my lineup which thickens up my defence with 4 additional armour. I am rather confident I should be able to fare good in the match and hopefully nothing surprise me. Other than my tank, everyone else was a magic attacker.

Let's battle!

Battle Synopsis

Round 1, A super fast paced with definite hits by most of my lineup. Jini firs took opponent Djinn Biljka, SPellsmth took care of Magcap Magus and anther given to them when Queen Mycelia

Round 2, Everything was settled in this round. With the various magic attacking cards landing a strike from my opponent's lineup. It felt like picking up scrap metal as all of the lineup that my opponent had was fully cleared out this round. A strong performance and good win. Victory secured!

Post Battle Summary
A match that got settled in lightning speed. It is really like a shoot'em all situation where we observed card being taken out one by one.

Did my strategy work? Yes absolutely. The strategy was nicely executed with just 2 rounds needed to steamroll my opponent. Each card was there for a purpose and function. The double Protect that was deployed helped further protect the lineup with 2 layers of armour and especially useful when there is scattershot for the whole lineup. Spellsmith was there to take out positive buff while Madcap Magus with the life leech will enable strong survivability. Hill Giant while not being a magic attacker was instrumental as a front tank as it had a very good mana to health ratio. One more important thing to allow us to strike earlier was also the Blood Lust in Jini where it grows its stats whenever it kills another card.

What's the Battle Mage Secret?

The Battle Mage Secret today is on knowing what kind of abilities you are bringing into the match. For instance, in the match I shared, I knew the possibility of people using non magic attack, I lined up 2 cards that had Protect to further improve lineup survivability. Spellsmith was there to be the de-buffer, clearing out buffs that were implemented by my oppponent. Djinn Biljka while being selfish with the camouflage, was a good hitter and ensured it will stay alive until last. Madcap Magus brought life leech and ensured its own survivability.

Because Little League is a ruleset that small mana cards can be used, these cards tend to be of smaller stats as such, the right choice of abilities to be brought into a match can help boost up the stats or help you survive longer and take out your opponent. If one never plan properly, then we will be at the mercy of our opponents.

Nice move in the lineup.
Does your Earth team is the strongest in the collection, considering the higher number of max out warriors?
