Let's talk music and play ( day 19 Contest )

Many remember the catchy song from the Bananita Dolca commercial. In the beach animation, a little black banana dances happily, laughs, plays and sings the song "Banavana ba, banita dolka, charm is taste." Above this calypso beat is a brief ad for "Colored Booms." These rhythms and melodies have been played so often on television that it's hard to put them aside (even for those of us who see things differently). This is due to the generation born in the 90s).

The most interesting thing is to find out where this fun, catchy and fun rhythm comes from. Unfortunately, it's not a happy story, but recovery is important. The advertising geniuses who took over the station inevitably looked for the first sound source they found and stayed there. The song is said to be a calypso called "Day-oh" (commonly known as "Banana Boat Song"), written in 1956 by the talented musician Harry Belafonte (born in New York). However, the song's origins have older roots, which Belafonte learned in his youth in Jamaica.

The Banana Boat song is a traditional Jamaican song sung by word of mouth by the island's banana boat workers (all of African descent) since the early 20th century. The song was born as a sign of protest and as a way to pass the endless hours of loading and unloading bananas for the multinational United Fruit Company.

The cynicism of the multinational Nestlé (candy manufacturer) and its commercials with colorful sweets dancing happily on the beach seem incredible due to the story behind the jingle, vital for the recovery of employees. What would our Jamaican banana brothers say when they see an advertisement like this? Perhaps they will answer: This is capitalism. But if we reverse history, the future will be ours.
