Meditation, visualisation and yoga

For a few years now, both my boyfriend and I have tried to teach our little one about meditation, visualization and yoga. Now let's get the yoga part straight immediately, we are both no yoga masters or anything in that matter, but we both have experienced many times that it's great for the body and mind. I honestly wish I had a little more yoga skills, to be honest, but who knows in the future lol.

We both have plenty of experience meditating and (my favourite) visualizing on the other hand and that is something that we often remind her of. Although for a long time she didn't want to know anything about meditation and thought it was boring, with a few exceptions here and there, she is now more open to it. I love this and whenever she is asking questions or bringing up the topic herself, I want to stimulate her and hope that she will keep doing so.

She suddenly wanted to do yoga

Three days ago, she asked me if she could do yoga when I was ready with the laundry and could find a clip on youtube for her. The question came out of the blue as before her question she was drawing things. But again, I want to stimulate this if she brings it up so I was quick enough to find something suitable for her on YT. I don't love the commercials in between, but I do love the fact that I can put it on using the TV without having to stream it from my phone or anything. She can play it back or go fast-forward to the next video herself this way without having to use my phone. So I take the commercials for granted because it's not used that often anyway.

Cosmic Kids Yoga

When I typed in the search bar "yoga for kids" I quickly bumped on a video from
"Cosmic Kids Yoga". When playing it, I was pleasantly surprised. The yoga teacher has created a very fun way to introduce children to yoga with a cool story about a silver fox called Fernando who's doing yoga and showing us about the dark so we don't have to be scared anymore. The first episode we played was about feelings, you see.

The story starts with a warm-up of the body in a super fun way. For example, they are going to make a sandwich and while making these movements she includes picking up veggies and chopping them. Kids are intrigued by the story while actually, she's showing them how to do yoga poses. I think it's very clever and well done.

Zen Den

Now, this is where they really caught my attention. The teacher tells a story about the owl and the guard dog to refer to the moments you aren't acting like someone that's feeling zen. For example, when feelings of anger or stress appear because you can't solve a sum in math's class. I told my daughter to listen carefully, as this is important what she's trying to explain. Our daughter often gets stressed if she doesn't understand something immediately, while we tell her to calm down, listen, we'll explain and her mind is going from 1 to 100 in 3 seconds. She actually responds like a guard dog as referred in the video. I tried to explain to her she should remember this and think about the wise owl.

The part about the owl and guard dog starts just before 20 minutes. I think it's great and we already tested if she remembered, which she did. I will remind her every time I notice this happening as she seems to be able to understand how to deal with that better when I refer to a video she enjoyed watching and participating in.

Peace Out

The peace out is where they truly ask the kids to be calm and listen mostly, which I've noticed is still hard for her even after a full-on yoga session where she has been an absolute champ participating. I truly enjoyed watching this, and I hope that in a few weeks of practice, she will be able to allow herself to peace out as well.

They are also learning about all these yoga poses and it's super fun to see how she just nails it. Nowadays I would have to try really really hard to even come close to some of these poses lol, but she just does it even the first time. Super fun to watch.

Mindful child mindful mother

I love how my daughter has inspired me to join her with these yoga sessions in the past couple of days. As I wrote yesterday, I was super on edge after some not so chill experience hearing what our neighbour was up to, making me go back in time and feeling super on edge for most of the day. I decided that I should have some fun with her and join her mindfulness afternoons filled with yoga and laughter.

Today I felt at ease again and didn't join her, but I found this video above today so I will probably give it a go tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Thank you very much for all this information my little son Diego, 5 years old, has shown interest in yoga, I really don't know in which TV channel he saw it or in which cartoon, the truth is that he started asking me questions and I have looked for information and we already do some practices together and he tells everyone that he does yoga to calm down and breathe when he gets upset with his little sister ha ha ha ha ha well, that's the beginning of something. Thank you, this information is very useful to me.
