Silver Stackers Engagement Initiative - Giving Away 5 HSBI Units

Engagement is fun!

So lately I've been joining some people on their posts where they do a fun lottery to win HSBI units. I've seen their engagement go up a lot and I think that's great because in the end, engagement is how you get to know new people! I often notice that I get caught in comment after comment and it's been quite fun lately so I figured that it's a good time to add some fun HSBI win post to my content schedule as well.

HSBI

I learned about HSBI back on the old platform where it was still called @steembasicincome. I used to have a nice stash of SBI units but with the abandonment of my old account, I also abandoned my old SBI and later HSBI units. I remember that I always loved the term Universal basic income and this was introduced later. Basically you build units for 1 hive, you sponsor someone and for that 1 hive that person and yourself receive 1 unit of HSBI.

You will receive votes based on your HSBI units, clearly this is balanced out and there's a whole system behind this which I don't understand but if you're curious you can see the balances, vote estimate and reward estimate in this list. Just use the filters to find out what you're curious about.

image.png

Honestly, I forgot about it until I noticed more people are building their units and giving them away to others who are reblogging or engaging on their posts. As I'm really focussed on building stakes and handing out tips to people, it's only natural that I start adding HSBI to the mix now as well. It's the perfect way to show other members that I appreciate their engagement and give a little back to them by sponsoring them HSBI units.

I've been sponsored too!

I remember winning one of @thebighigg's reblog lotteries recently, but I see I also got a unit sponsored by @dbooster a few days ago. Thank you for that!

Everyone likes to receive a little something, something, right? So let's see how you can grab your hands on some sweet HSBI units yourself.

Engagement is key!

Although I appreciate you reblogging my post, I always do, I'm not going to ask you to do so today. What I will ask you instead is to answer a fun question in the comment section. There is no good or bad, it's an open question and meant to start a conversation. From all the comments I receive, I will pick 5 winners who will each receive 1 HSBI unit after this post has been paid out.

If this initiative turns out to be a success, I will create a weekly post with a new fun question for you to answer. Don't worry if you don't want to (or can't) answer the question, your engagement is still appreciated!

Silver Stackers Questions

You probably noticed that I created a title with Silver Stackers engagement initiative.. I did this on purpose because lately I've been getting to know a few of the people in the community a bit better and I'd like to build an even better relationship with you guys and gals! I've been enjoying the cool comments as well as reading informative posts where I could not only enjoy looking at some shiny silver (or gold) but also learn a thing or two.

My thought behind this initiative is to throw a question out every week to not only engage and get to know you all better, but also maybe learn a thing or two here and there when the question makes this possible. I'm dedicated to suck up a lot of information to become a smart stacker and I'm quite sure this journey becomes a lot easier whenever I can read about your journey, mistakes made and tips you're giving me when I ask for advice.

As a token of appreciation, I will pick some comments as winners for each week and send HSBI units. This week it will be 5, but if the initiative turns out successful (or not, lol) then I may change that per week.

The question for this week

Now that I explained the thought behind the initiative, here comes this week's question:

Silver stackers engagement initiative.png

Have you ever been fooled / scammed by a seller and received A coin or bar that was not as advertised?

If so, maybe you can share the story and even better, explain what you learned from this experience and if you could have avoided this in the future. I truly hope if it happened that it was a one time thing and not a very expensive mistake!

Leave a comment below, and maybe you will be picked for an HSBI share next week when this post has been paid out. Reblogging is appreciated, but not mandatory to win a unit.

I'm very excited to read your comments, for now I'm going to wish you an amazing weekend!

I think at some point in our collecting over the years we've all had some bad buys off of unscrupulous sellers. One comes to mind from my trip to Israel. The shop owner told me a coin was 75% silver and it turned out to be 50% I did a post on it awhile back: https://peakd.com/silvergoldstackers/@thebighigg/silver-100-lirat-coin-from-israel-re-blog-lottery-for-a-chance-to-win-3-hsbi

You have to be careful, there's lots of counterfeit silver coins out there!

Yes, that's what I was thinking. I guess you can never really avoid it as often it's not a matter of not doing your own research well, but a deceptive seller. Too bad about that coin, will head over to the post now.. thanks for sharing and you got yourself a chance for an HSBI share!

I once purchased a flute that was marked Sterling and turned out to only be plated. Sadly, the return period had expired, but it was a good learning experience.

I haven't been scammed on any coins, rounds, or bars.

I love this post idea!

Do you think that was on purpose or someone not knowing this? How would you try to avoid it in the future? I mean this advice probably also goes for coin collecting :)

Good that it never happened with coins, rounds or bars!

Thank you, I hope it will be a success because I already have several new questions lined up which I will save for the following weeks. And I'm excited to start building more HSBI units.

Thank you for engaging and the tips, fingers crossed for the HSBI share...

I think it was someone who didn't know any better. I had it tested with an XRF gun to find out, but I was too late because life happened, and I delayed.

For coins, bars and rounds, I have a Sigma that tests gold, silver and platinum for me.

I think that's less bad if the other didn't know.

Uhm, you are talking gibberish for me now because what's a Sigma? Please elaborate so I can learn a thing :)

Oh, sorry. A Sigma is a device that tests the electrical conductivity of an object.

Wow that is expensive, my gosh. Not meant for a newbie like me lol. Bookmarked it for future references :)

It's not. I actually traded my dealer some gold to get one, but it's worth more than its weight in gold. 😁

HAHHAHA of course my friend! I got a silver eagle from China, you can imagine the rest? first test using a magnet and ...bam! stuck totally! I don't need even to do further tests!

Oh bummer, yes I can imagine the rest of the story. I've been fooled ordering things from China often over the years but so far I have not ordered any coins there, I don't think I ever will either. Or it must be a seller with a great reputation.

Was yours expensive? I hope not!

Thanks for stepping in and fingers crossed you may receive an HSBI share. Have a good weekend..

It always sucks, even if it was just a buck, simple as that. But glad it wasn't something in the hundreds. I've had several bad actors in the delivery companies when ordering items in China. Had nothing to do with the sellers but the delivery guys just signed off with the first name on the package and then you can't prove you never got it. I was bummed even if it was just a few bucks.

eBay has been a gamble where I have been stuck with a fake product that I tested as non-silver, I use most often a Neodymium magnetic slide test and weight scale to be reasonably sure.

Another case was the seller never shipped or responded to my messages yet took the money and disappeared to which eBay eventually reimbursed me because I took reasonable measures to communicate the issues and willing to find a middle ground.
Only once I purchased a known fake coin but I use that as my Test control coin.
Otherwise, the bulk of my stacking business has been through RCM & BBB accredited retailers in my country, and my fav Local Coin shop.

My take, stay with Sellers with a history of good long Feedback records.

Good that ebay reimbursed you there!

Uhm, please tell me more about that slide, I've never seen anything like it. Meanwhile I shall google it to find out more.

Smart thinking about the fake coin for comparison!

When I bid in an auction I surely check their feedback, whenever I see too many negative, especially about questionable products, I move on, no matter how much I like a coin. This goes for other products too.

Thank you for sharing dear, I appreciate all the tips and stories I can learn from!

The coin slide is the product by an English gentleman in the UK who goes by the name of Cyber Curtain Twitcher on Instagram, I originally became familiar with him on YouTube and is known for his shtick for destroying fake coins and calling out fraud.

This is a small pocket model, there is a larger one. They come in at least three finishes and can be custom made to suit your taste. I chose red Oak to match my oak desk and my imaginary sailing vessel.

Oh I love sneak peeks. That picture sure looked strange but now I understand it's because they are magnetic coins. What a shame that people are getting scammed constantly.

Yep if it's silver it should slide down slowly I actually made those slides with magnets and a 3d printed design to hold it all together !BBH

You know you can transfer the HSBI units from your old account to this one. You can transfer the old old SBI units from your steem account to this one as well. Don't just abandon them.

I haven't been scammed yet. I usually check out the person pretty carefully before I buy anything from them. For example, on ebay I won't buy from anyone who doesn't have an extremely high rating with no negative reviews. I also won't buy from anyone from China. Too high of a risk of fakes.

Anyway, knock on wood. I've been lucky so far!

Yes, I know but I locked myself out of my old account long time ago. I think it happened when I tried to change my password and the password database didn't sync it correctly. There were a few other incidents around that time. I just don't remember if that also goes for the Hive account or just Steem. Need to check that I guess, thanks for the reminder!

That's smart not to buy from someone without extreme high rating, but also China, I think it's tricky with so many fakes. Especially because they tend to use the pictures of an original item (not just coins but with anything) which they then replicate and when you receive it, you see the difference. Often to be found in the review section, lol.

Yes, and sorry I read your comment but it was on my phone and I wasn't logged in so I was planning to comment back later, and then I forgot. Busy weeks :)

I will need to check if it would even be possible because I locked myself out of my old account (not sure if that was steemit or hive though). Wrote it on my task list will check it next week or so. It could be I can still access it but I forgot what happened exactly.

Either way, thanks for letting me know, I appreciate it!

I got beat once on a silver panda coin. When I put in for a refund they were no longer on eBay and closed. When I contacted eBay they said because they had no way to get the money back I was beat.

Thanks for sharing!

Had the experience of being scammed by Squid Coin. This taught me the importance of thorough research and caution when investing in cryptocurrencies. In the future, I will verify project legitimacy, assess risks, and use trusted platforms. I hope my experience was a one-time occurrence and not a costly mistake.

I don't have experience buying coins or bars but I have experience buying other stuff from ebay or other websites. For a long time I bought many MTG cards and I was never scammed. Only time I received an MTG card that was slightly more damaged than advertised.

Thank you for sharing that, it's often very deceptive. I mentioned it in another comment that often those Ebay sellers (or other similar sites) use original product photos and then replicate items that don't look as great as the original.

I don't own any silver, just small amounts of gold bars and coins.
Since I always get them from official sellers, I have never been scammed.
I see gold as a small protection against inflation and an iron reserve

The question goes for gold as well, it's just that that's probably not going to be something I get my hands on in the near future but the experiences are the same. And I'm happy you have not been scammed!

Thanks for commenting either way, I appreciate it!

Yes, I recently received two coins that are supposedly BUs... a Morgan and a Peace Dollar. It was for SD Bullion, a reputable dealer. I complained, and they insisted that it was BU! That's it... they lost my business. They will not again get any business from me.

Ouch, that's sad if you are a good customer and they don't agree with the complaint and own up.

Haven't been scammed yet, though I just started collecting silver coins. It's definitely a great question and nice to learn from the others!
I already keep in mind:

  • Buy from people with a good track record
  • Buy from official stores
  • When something is too beautiful to be true, it's usually fishy..

Good tips! It's just we all make mistakes sometimes and something can slip. Especially when getting lost in the fomo lol. I don't have any experience with bad items yet, but would love to keep it that way :)

If you still have units on that other chain, you can request them to transfer here by sending on 0.003 STEEM transaction to @steembasicincome with "Transfer Refund Request" in the memo (transaction needs to be sent on that other chain, not this one!).

But... those morons that run that other chain made some really stupid rate limit decision for their API nodes, and we have to make a bunch of revisions to correctly process transfers again. I've got a guy working on it (I think we're almost done, and the current bottleneck is on me, not him) but I don't know how soon Transfer Refund Requests will actually be processed.

And what about the units on this chain? How do I process this?

Thanks in advance :)

Units are transferable between accounts, with a minimum of 10 units, by sending an 0.001 transaction request to @steembasicincome, with your instructions in the transaction memo. e.g. please transfer all units and pending balance to @thisismylife. The request will need to be sent from the account that currently has the units.

These are processed manually, so please let us know here or in our Discord so that we can look for it.
