NinetiesFriday - Eurodance Group Twenty 4 Seven

Dutch musical talent

While browsing for something to watch, someone shared an episode of 90's dance and I was curious what it was about. At the time I didn't know yet that it was part of a series of episodes about several famous Eurodance groups from the 90's which I grew up with.

It's quite funny to see that there's a lot of musical talent in the little country called Holland. I knew that many famous DJ's are from Holland and that many hits during my party years involved some sort of Dutch DJ or producer. Even at that time I found it fascinating that we had so many famous people in the music industry considering that we're such a small country.

Back to my younger years

The 90's start when I'm just a kid, 6 years old and whatever maths @geneeverett uses to count the era, lol. Anyway, I had to think really hard which musical influence was vital to my love for music and which artists I'd write about for his nineties initiative. The best thing to do is just to Google the 90's and then see in which rabbit hole you end up.

I bookmarked several artists as an option to write about later. Yet I didn't find the inspiration to start writing yet until I found this documentary series about the Eurodance groups of the 90's because this truly brought up memories and I learned some interesting stories that were new to me.

Twenty 4 Seven's first years

Today I picked Twenty 4 Seven which you may or may not know. Although I always remembered who the pretty blonde Nance was, I had to watch a little of this episode to find out there were several combinations of male dancers/singers in this group at the time.

Since I watched the episode I constantly hear "I'm a slave to the music, na na nay na" in my head.. Below the video in case I had to refresh your memory or in case you never heard the song:

Good luck, you will now hear this in your head for the next few hours, is my guess. Anyway, all these Eurodance groups start with a producer (or two) and then a singer or more singers and a dancer or two gets added later. I didn't know the story behind Twenty 4 Seven and to me Nance has always been Twenty 4 Seven, I didn't even remember the guys who were part of it until I saw them back in this documentary.

Nance was just 16

Apparently, she was still very young and always surrounded by guys and it was hard for her as a 16 year old being famous and always on the road, travelling the world while not having any females around her. I could see she was still in pain about some things happening in the past and I never knew that she got replaced just like that because she and the guy could not be around each other anymore. The producer decided he'd have an easier task to replace the pretty blonde singer over the guy who he wrote the lyric with.

He was wrong, and looking back on this story, I admit that it felt like a bit of sweet revenge for Nance that this happened.

Long story short

Although Twenty 4 Seven wasn't my biggest favourite Eurodance group of the nineties, this episode was revealing to me because I've always wondered what exactly happened that made them separate at the time. Apparently the male of the group continued on stage for a long time with a new blonde but Nance mentioned in the documentary that she had to listen to her voice on tape for many years while it was the other one performing. When they were doing a reboot of the group, it was not Nance who got asked, but the guy.

They surely didn't get rich

In the show it was told that at the time none of them became rich from being famous even though they flew all over the world. They had some killer contracts making other people rich, as this happens with many people, especially with new people in the industry and youngsters..

Least memories from Twenty 4 Seven

This episode was interesting but the least memorable one of the 4 I've seen until now. I don't know if there will be more than four, but you can expect me to share the others in the next weeks.. The other Eurodance groups made a bigger impact in my memory of these years for sure.

How's your Eurodance knowledge? You surely remember 2 Unlimited, Snap and Two Brothers on the fourth floor? Or at least 1 or 2 of these?

These are the ones next on my list and maybe more to come..

Have a good weekend ahead, may it be with our without Eurodance :)

Oh boy I've never heard this song and it is terrible 😂🤣😶‍🌫️

I love the behind the music type documentaries though. It so interesting to find out what some of my favorite music stars were actually up to while they were making songs I love so much.

Sad to hear about the girl in this group I'm sure she was taken advantage of :(

The music industry has always been a terrible business for the talent, as so often the "management" were just assholes taking advantage of the artists.

I did listen to this song all the way through just now (though I could have listened to 10 seconds and heard it all 😵‍💫) and I just have this to say, if I start humming this tune later I will hold you personally responsible @thisismylife 😂🤣🤣😭

Have a !LUV'lee weekend :)

Well, I agree, it's shit lol. But I remember (especially back then) that it was a catchy tune. I never became a fan of them or anything, but I remember that my first single cd was from 2 Unlimited, they were way more famous than Twenty 4 Seven.

It surprises me that Twenty 4 Seven is still booked until today on 90s festivals..

I also love these documentaries, I watched some of people I barely even listened to and almost every time it became clear that they were taken advantage of in a way, some worse than others.

You can hold me responsible, but shared annoyance is better than dealing with it alone, I already had my fair share of having this in my head lol.

Passed it on to the readers now !LOL

You have a good weekend yourself !LUV

Very interesting story, I hadn't ever heard of them, but then again Eurodance wasn't big in South America or the Caribbean! Very 90's dance sound to it though. It's a shame the poor girl was taken advantage of like that, but in that industry it's almost a guaranteed event especially back then.

My Eurodance knowledge is absolutely zero, probably the closest I got was watching "A Night At The Roxbury"!

Thanks for sharing, I learned something!

I bet it wasn't big in South America, I mean they have way better music there anyway. I think if I'd have grown up there, I'd have a much richer music memory lol because I love the catchy latin music.. But if you look back as far as the 90s, I have less knowledge about music in South America, gonna learn that from you I guess :)

Everyplace has it's good and bad sides! Europe is more stable than most Latin countries so growing up that is a huge plus. I'll share some of the fun stuff from back then, Selena was really one of the first Latin artists to really break into the English speaking world setting up more artists success like Shakira, Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony....

Wow. There is so much info on this, and i just couldn't help reading, haha. Yeah, it was a sweet revenge for Nance it was.

The song really hit the post, though with the rap, and then the angelic voice that follows hehe.
