Have kittens they said, it will be fun - They were right!

Have kittens they said, it will be fun!

And gosh, they were right! I already knew having cats/kittens is fun but after missing it the whole time we lived in Budapest (4,5 years), we as cat people really missed something in our lives. I swear the lockdowns would have been less annoying if you have a cat (or two) to play with as their life continues as per normal during these moments.

But in the end, not having to move cats by plane and having all options open to have temporary accommodation when moving back to Spain last year, surely made our (already complicated and sometimes stressful) trip back a lot easier. Now that we have two of these fur balls, I can't imagine our lives without them. They are part of the family. They get loads of attention, not only during the weekend, btw.

Meet Maesi

The oldest of the two ladies we adopted earlier this year after we fostered her and were present at her rescue. She was stuck under the laundry service container where I have been doing my laundry the past 6 weeks more or less. Every time I go there, I think about the tiny little kitten and her loud meows stuck under there and seeing how she was placed in another cage to take home to a first foster home. I knew we'd be without our 5 other foster kittens in a few days so I didn't think twice to say we wanted to foster her in a few days. We saw an opportunity to get to know her without knowing she's already adopted (the other 5 kittens were all adopted before they arrived at our home).

Sadly the picture of her rescue in the cage is not clear but I don't want to throw it away because you can see how small she was:

This was her a few days later, in our home after the other foster babies left:

Very guarded still but she didn't need more than an hour to chill with me and my daughter and fall asleep in our arms. She surely wasn't the average abandoned kitten though, it was clear from the first hour that this was a tough cookie and claimed her spot immediately. To the annoyance of our big cat Mochi, who couldn't stand her, as she wasn't impressed by his big paws and thought she was the boss from the second we introduced them to each other. And when we noticed Mochi was not getting along with her, we decided she was not going to be adopted because it was important that Mochi and the new kitten needed to get along.

Luna was introduced to us

Our friend had another nest of kittens who were dumped in the garbage bin :( and when we talked about Mochi being ok with a kitten more calm and not so demanding to be the top cat, she said I never realized but you may want to meet Luna (she was called Guindilla at the time though). We went there to meet and it was love at first sight (for me).

She was a bit of an ugly duckling, lol. Let's not say we picked her for her looks, it was her extremely sweet character that made me fall in love the very second she crawled in my neck. My daughter didn't have any time for her when we were there as she was too busy playing with the big cats (she has a favourite at my friends house lol). But below you can see it was love from the moment we brought her home a few days later:

Sadly for us, Mochi died as he was hit by a car and we were broken hearted. We already adopted Luna, but now we knew we'd end up with a single cat again and we doubted to adopt the other foster (Percy) but something didn't feel right. From a few days after Mochi died, suddenly Maesi started to cuddle up every evening and seek our attention. She started to become really affectionate and seemed to be telling us "Hello! Your new cat is right in front of you, but you already dismissed me before so you aren't seeing it".

And this was exactly the case, we dismissed her because of Mochi, as we wanted a playmate for him, but with Mochi being gone, why look further as this lady was clearly meant to be with us. We were there when she got rescued and we started to bond really quick from that moment.

Friends from the start

Although Maesi was clearly the boss in the house, being a little older as well as being further in her development, they were friends from the start. Luna still had to recover a lot from being malnourished as a baby. Our friend literally had to handfeed her every 2 hours and everything came out straight away for a full week. She thought she'd die every single day, and yet managed to pull her through. If it wasn't for her, Luna would not be with us today. We're so grateful she took care of her, as Luna is the sweetest cat out there. Look below how Maesi looks much more like a cat, while Luna is still very petite. This took several months to recover from.

This is how she looks today, my little Luna isn't so little anymore, you can now she how she's more in proportion (mostly her head and ears) compared to her first months. I love how she turned into a beautiful and confident cat.

They remain friends and often sleep side by side, preferably on top of me, at my feet of next to me. I love them to death and I'm so happy we fostered these kittens instead of just picking a random kitten from an advertisement. We now didn't only find our forever cats but also helped out a bunch of others while we were waiting to find our own new family members. Although we have loads more space now, we want to focus on these two ladies for the time being and not take on new foster babies. Never say never though.

They caught something

They are allowed on the balcony when we're there with them. They happily take advantage of that because they love sitting in the window as well as chill on the fake grass on our balcony. They seem to enjoy the fresh air as much as I do, especially compared to the other home where the windows had to be closed when they were in the room. When they lay on top of their new scratching post, they have a view to kill for, ocean view from the bed. Spoiled cats!

A few days ago, I thought they had a little bead from a bracelet or something but when I wanted to pick it up, I saw it was moving:

Then I noticed it was a metallic beetle. Maesi was very protective of it and didn't want to share the beetle so we helped him escape from the claws of our ladies. It's too beautiful to let them play with it until it dies.

That's all for today, as dinner time approaches, I'm going to get some food prepped as well as feed the little monsters some of their favourite food and then snuggle up against them to watch some tv. We're all a bit under the weather so it will be easy food and more relaxing today. The cats surely don't mind that, they are a bunch of sleepyheads!

I can't help it ... but Luna was a cutie right from the start. She was not an ugly kitten at all! And good to see and hear that they are doing so great in the new house.

Oh don't get me wrong, I fell in love with her the very second I held her. She had the cutest little face and she still has. She also trusts us 100% from the very beginning while Maesi only wants to extremely cuddle when she decides it's time. They are very happy here, that's clear, all of us are, lol.
