Time to do the white entttropy summer walk

Hello Hello Hivians Dreemers and music fans!

As you might have noticed I have had a very quiet Hive in June. I was away on holiday, and although I got back last week, I just do not seem to be able to blow the cobwebs away and get back into the swing of things here on Hive.

So this afternoon, well this evening as I started this post this morning, and now it is evening and we have had dinner, I decided to do a 2for or a BOGOF you know the thing, buy one get one free, in this case it is a dual purpose post!

Just as well really, as I am not a fan of posting twice in a day.

I digress, I think because I am having flashbacks!

My primary degree was in Chemical and Process Enginering, yep pretty technical stuff it was and of course a huge part of Chemical Engineering is the subject Thermodynamics!

Now you can guess the source of those flashbacks being Thermodynamics!

More about the technical side of things later, BUTTTT in the meantime, let's have some fun!

Tune 1 ~ Entropy by Awkward Marina

Her line at 2:35 probably sums this post(s) up ....
That was really cheesy

However, I don't care as I am having fun, and that is what Hive should be about in my opinion!

Whilst I was doing a wee spot of researching I came up with that song and just loved the explanation around it all!

"Entropy" is fan song created and performed by the internet music artist Awkward Marina based on the animated television series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It features Discord rejecting his opportunity of redemption arguing that he can't change and causing chaos is in his nature.

I mean I just had to include this, and my BOGOF post was born.

As soon as I saw the Discord part about rejecting his opportunity of redemption and saying it is in his nature to cause Discord, I thought well that is apt with our Discord servers on Hive sometimes!

Awkward Marina seems to write and perform and do it all, and it's a fan song for My Little Pony!

That got me to thinking, can I perhaps stretch this post from a 2 in one to a 3 in 1 post?

Of course I fluffing can!

I do like horses and I must admit I have a great affinity with the chestnut and white ones.

Did you see the sea?

Well of course you fluffing did, and that is what I love to see when I am having a summer walk. That picture was actually taken when we had just come outside of a fossil museum.

Orkney being Orkney, the museum was in a stone building, and had the most gorgeous simple white flowers all over the place, not sure what they were mind you!

So yes whenever I am on a summer walk, I want to see nature, after all there is #alwaysaflower, but nature is not just flowers, it is animals and you know I love birds, and look out for a special load of cuteness at the end of this post!

A summer walk, take water oh yes no matter where you walk take some water! And a snack if not a sandwich, I have a banana and a chocolate bar and a packet of Dextrose, you never know when you need a sugar pick me up!

The Fossil museum was actually a Heritage museum as well, and have some gorgeous things of years gone by!

Just look at this needlework!

We were on a walk to The Italian Chapel that was built by Italian Prisoners of War in the Second World War.

Why the chapel was built I shall tell you in a separate post.

Ehm excuse me Tengo, but what happened to entropy?

Yeah you are right, the tangent I veered right off onto it in record time......

Let me do some explaining and get us back on the (ent)rop(e)y path before @samsmith1971 has an eppy about the fluffing nonsense that is being written tonight!

But is it nonsense or is it just organised chaos .... ?

As you may have guessed this post was for #threetunetuesday and also in response to this post Is it all descending into chaos? (Dreem-WOTW Contest S2 R5) from @samsmith1971

I mean really, I think I have won already, descending into chaos? Fluff that, I have already descended into chaos!

Talking of chaos leads me nicely into tune 2.

Tune 2 ~ Münchhausen (Just Chaos) by Ace of Base

Part of the reason that this resonates with me is that as a youngster I did infact read Baron Munchausen's Narrative of his Marvellous Travels and Campaigns in Russia which is a 1785 novel about a fictional German nobleman written by the German writer Rudolf Erich Raspe. There was a film made in the 80s which I have not seen. Perhaps I should.

However, the book was pure dead brilliant!

We are going to zip into Europe now, firstly taking a Ecency Discord Topic: SUMMER WALK to Germany with @mypathtofire all the while taking white photographs for Photo-essay contest nr 6 #White-essay for @stresskiller before we stop in the Netherlands (apparently Matilda said she fancied a spot of Gin with Mick!)

Tune 3 ~ Walking on Sunshine by Katrina & The Waves

I mean come on, does that not put you in a good mood!

And waves, well water is everywhere, even on big fluffing white boats! They make heaps of waves...

Do you know in the summertime, Kirkwall in Orkney gets three of these bloody big liners most days!

Thousands of passengers descending on Orkney. It is fluffing chaos and it peeved me. They get looked after, given discounts yada yada, but are only there in the summer, what about the local Orcadians who give the businesses their income all year round.

The passengers who goto the cafes to use the internet and fill the place, and poor locals can't get a table.

Actually, that is what I noticed was the commercialism. When I lived there, the archaeological sites were free and you could clamber over them. not fluffing now thanks to those cruise liner tourists!

Chaos again!

But we are alive, so there is no need to rant Tengo. No siree you are quite right.

So let's go back to The Netherlands and do a spot of ELI5 ...

What the fluff is entropy?

As per Wikipedia

Entropy is a scientific concept, as well as a measurable physical property, that is most commonly associated with a state of disorder, randomness, or uncertainty.

So we do see the disorder and randomness but not really that cool a definition ...

Let me show you this !

Of course that is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to entropy. It ranges from extremely simple to oh fluff not that again!

Quite simply in ELI5 terms, entropy is a measurement of the amount of disorder in a system...

Examples:

  • A diamond is structured and highly ordered so will have a very low entropy.
  • A high temperature mix of hot gases flying around is a disordered system and so will have a high entropy.

Me, I love disorganised chaos, and believe there is method in my madness, what appears to be disorganised chaos is actually quite structured and ordered, you just have to know where to look!

So yeah my entropy it varies, would it not be boring if it was a constant the whole time?

Now that we have sorted this entropy, and I have sorted four posts with this post, how is that for efficiency, I shall say bye bye and get on the plane to finish the walk!

You covered so much in this post that I don't even know where to begin! But I do know that I detest cruise liners and when I am traveling go far out of my way to avoid towns where they dock. But big Waves? That reminds me....

Haha! This sure is a super variety post, Super Ed! 😂 You killed not two but four birds with one stone. That's called leveraging resources.

After reading all this, the entropy, the chaos, the ponies, the rants about the tourists, and the cruise ships, etc. I think I need a Walking on Sunshine session. 🤣

Those are big liners, I didn't realise that visiting the Orkney Islands was so popular that they needed a big ship. Something about that Ace of Base tune is catchy. Great selection. Good to see you back Ed!

I understand what you mean about having a hard time getting back into the swing of things! I have a couple of trips planned this summer and I am worried about how it is going to impact my time here. I guess ultimately, I just need to live, Hive will still be around when I get back. That needle work is pretty impressive. It reminds me of some stuff my mom used to make.

The needle work was really delicate. It was a great museum and had some great WW2 things, totally fascinating it was!

Tune 3 ~ Walking on Sunshine by Katrina & The Waves

I have always known this tune since I was a kid. I think it used to be in a commercial for detergent called Sunshine. We sang it a lot then because, well, it is indeed a "put you in a good mood" song.

I did a lot of thermodynamics and heat transfer in the university. It was for B.Eng. so it surely isn't as deep as yours, but it's damn cool to see it again and how brilliantly used it is in your post.

I love all your photos, but I love the one of the pony the most.
