Ursula von der Leyen all set for European re-election

Ursula von der Leyen all set for European re-election

Politics are very much the inthing at the moment, as I am sure you aware of the Biden-Trump race to be POTUS.

It is quite crazy that either of them let alone both of them are head of political party and about to become the most powerful man in the world later in the year!

Meanwhile here in Europe, we are all set to have the incumbent European Commission President win another term.

It is all go for the top dogs to keep serving again!

Upcoming European Elections 9th June 2024

The ninth European elections are scheduled to occur on June 9th 2024. They are held in all 27 member states of the European Union, and are the ninth since the first one in 1979.

Great Britain is of course no longer part of the European Union however we still keep an eye on what is happening across the water, especially when we still have a full on war raging on the doorsteps of the EU.

On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine in an escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War that started in 2014.

The invasion became the largest attack on a European country since World War II.

I mention that for a reason that will become clear later in the article!

What is the European Commission?

The European Parliament is the directly elected legislative body of the European Union. It has 705 members, who are elected by voters in the member states every five years. This is the election that will be held on the 9th of June.

The European Commission is the executive branch of the European Union.

The Commission as you would expect is responsible for setting legislation and upholding all the various EU treaties. The President of the European Commission is the head of the Commission and is appointed by the European Council.

In other words bureaucrat city!

The European People's Party

The European People's Party or EPP is the largest and most influential political party in the European Union.

They have chosen Ursula von der Leyen to be their lead candidate again in the 9th of June elections.

With the EPP ruling the roost, the appointment of von der Leyen is pretty much guaranteed to mean she will be re-elected as President of the European Commission.

Politics would not be politics if there was no controversy!

She has been praised for her handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, but she has also been criticized for her perceived lack of experience and her perceived closeness to the European Union's bureaucracy.

"We must keep degrading Putin's war machine," said Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission.

For that I am grateful, we need a strong Europe not to bow down to Putin!

Who will win the 9th of June 2024 elections?

I am pretty sure the EPP with Ursula von der Leyen at the helm will comfortably secure victory.

She is a hard lady and we need that. Her opponent is most likely Nicolas Schmit the Luxembourgian European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights.

Well what about the rights of Ukranians I say.

The politics for the European Commission seems like an interesting one. I can't wait to see who would eventually win the top seat.

Politocs is best watched from a window because a lot is always going own when within. Criticism is no new thing I say, no one is perfect yet I must say its better to be criticized and it doesn't resemble you.

Ukraine has faced unstableness for a while and I feel for the citizens.

Don't know if it ok to say 'let the the best man win in politics' lols.

It's inspiring to see leaders like Ursula von der Leyen stepping up to serve again. Her dedication to addressing pressing issues like the COVID-19 pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine is commendable.

Looking forward to seeing the positive impact of her leadership.
