UK & US partner up on AI safety

UK & US partner up on AI safety!

If you know me, then you will know that I often post about AI or Artificial Intelligence, especially on a Tuesday which has become a day to discuss initiatives and advancements in the AI world on the Inleo platform in the Hive blockchain.

Should we regulate AI?

For me, then it is a resounding yes!

I am a positive person, but when it comes to AI and humans then I am a fluffing realist.

Humans well we can be despicable. Look at all the wars, the acts of attrocity taken just to get an advantage.

Driverless buses

Last year Stagecoach announced they were trialling a driverless bus service from a terminus which was quite close to me to Edinburgh.

I have not tried it, and am undecided if I will. But I am a fan of the saying never say never.

When they say driverless, yes the bus was not being controlled by a driver, however there was a driver in the drivers seat ready to grab take the controls just in case it was needed.

It reminds me of the driving instructors car with dual controls.

Last I heard they had paued the trial and put a driver back in charge of the bus!

I digress. did you see that Dali cargo ship crashing into Baltimore bridge last week. I wonder if that was on auto pilot... In fact the driverless bus does drive over a fluffing great bridge over the Firth of Forth!

I mean planes have been flying on auto pilot for years is that not just AI?

Drones

Then we have drones, the new weapons of war, they are expendablebutcan cause destrcution.

Did you see the Chinese do some great display involving hundreds and hundreds of drones, where it had all been orchestrated and choreographed by AI!

It does not take much for unscrupulous humans to use AI to their own advantage.

Bad actors we call them.

Of course finally people are waking up. The good is massive, I know I have used Alexa for years and she gets to know me, yes AI is great when you channel the positive.

But those bad actors could push and push and who knows AI take over and decimates us!

It won't be in my lifetime, but it is more than likely to happen...

Regulation?

I have been reporting on all the policies that the EU and US and even the UK have been implementing.

So ye things are getting regulated. Even some of the early innovators, Altman Musk et al realise that it needs to be regulated to a degree.

US and UK partner up

UK & United States announce a partnership on science of AI safety

The U.S. and the UK signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on April 1, 2024. This MOU will see them collaborate to develop tests for the most advanced AI models, following through on commitments made at the AI Safety Summit last November.

This was signed by U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and UK Technology Secretary Michelle Donelan on the first of April.

And no... it was not an April Fools Joke!

The whole ethos of the partnership is that both countries will work closely together to align their scientific approaches. This will see them accelerate and rapidly iterate robust suites of evaluations for AI models, systems, and agents.

Sounds impressive huh?

Well something is needed? No? Or am I the only one worried that we could advance AI to such an extent that bad actors cross over the line and create AI that destroys us!

I mean there are politicians whom I distrust, imagine if they get AI to fcuk us!

Happy AI hunting...

I think this is a fairly smart idea. I was just thinking the other day what happens when some of these individual AI's become aware of each other and start battling for dominance. We might have a whole "Person of Interest" scenario on our hands!

Never trust a politician to do anything that won't make them rich...

Not sure I would try the bus either, driverless vehicles still have had their issues. The boat in Baltimore, who knows, maybe they were all drunk!

I hate regulation period. But you know some super villain is already scheming to take over the world with AI, so I suppose there need be some...

It won't be in my lifetime 😂 😂, trust me, you wouldn't want it to. Bad actors will always take advantage of tech.

There is a need for government to look for means to curb the dangers. Yet as you said, what if they(government) turn to use it on people.
