Reality is indeed just what it is, neither friend nor foe. I think this is where motivation excels, in that in a way it shifts how we perceive reality. If reality gets hard for us, motivation can tell us that there's better days ahead or something similar and uplifting. However, as you rightly pointed out, these are merely treating the symptoms of a problem. That's why motivation eventually wanes and we're back to being depressed or stressed again, since the problem is still there.

Exactly, when that dopamine feeling of all that motivation wears off, people are back to feeling the way they used to, since the problem is actually still there. I don't have a problem against motivation speaking. Sometimes Iove it, it's just that it's not always the Messiah like a lot of people think it is. It doesn't solve problems, it solves symptoms
