Splinterlands surely want to end their month-long anniversary celebration with a bang. The Rise of the Champion tournament is currently ongoing and I decided to join this crazy event.

This is a free-to-all all tournament with all cards unlocked and provided for all competitors. There is no need to rent or own cards in order to compete. So this is probably the fairest tournament one can ask. And with the prizes amounting to $3,500, it's the one event that everyone should be on.

I'm currently ranked 67th with more than 2800 battles that still haven't concluded. I've got 6 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw, and I'm praying hard that I can climb to the top 210 players that will advance to the second round. My goal is to get into the top 138 to receive at least one rebellion pack.

Having all cards to choose from is not that easy. And as expected, a lot of players chose Byzantine Kitty whenever possible. Here's some of my memorable battles for the first round:

Kitty vs Possibilus battle link

This is me spamming Kitty myself. The ruleset is fog of war so every attack is directed to the first position. I thought Arkemis would be a great candidate because he's such a beast of a tank especially when backed by healing. It's a 99-mana game so I just picked all the high-mana monsters available with dual attacks. It's like the meme "Random b@llsh*t go." And luckily, it worked!

Yodin vs Kitty battle link

This is another fog of war ruleset and I'm pretty sure my opponent would use Kitty. Gladiator cards were also available so I chose to counter Kitty with speed and blast damage. I placed Krash in front, giving him weapons training. Countess Sinash was also there to buff the speed while Rush Townsend will definitely attack first. The opponent chose slower monsters so despite receiving two speed points from Kitty, all my monsters sent their attacks in before their first monster even had a chance. This resulted in a quick second-round victory.

Those are a few of my highlights in the tournament and I am hoping that I will still be in the game by tomorrow. Looking forward to that Rebellion pack!
