Netflix streaming WWE RAW

image.png

Hello everyone!

Today a post not about WOO as I am usually talking though it's still about wrestling. On my news feed, I found a local newspaper talking about netflix and WWE. As I wanted to know more about it, I started googling in English and among different articles, I found this article of Reuters from a couple of days ago. Apparently Netflix has paid 5 billion usd to possess the rights to send out WWE RAW wrestling matches.

I am definitely no expert on this subject but I guess it would be good for the wrestling industry in a couple of ways. As Netflix is paying so much it will probably mean that more and more people are becoming interested (again) in wrestling. As I don't know how much these rights have cost in the past, I don't know of it's a positive evolution or not. Nevertheless do I have the impression that news sites are creating some buzz around it. (Like they always do but still...)

I have no idea at all if it will improve the situation of the wrestlers themselves though. But I would guess that more eyes is never a bad thing. I already mentioned that it wouldn't be an article about WOO, well, maybe more publicity for wrestling in general could be something WOO could benefit of in the long-term as well. Again, just speculation based on my own thought without knowing much about the topic. So take this article with a grain of salt. ;)

Thanks for reading! What do you think will be the influence on the wrestling industry in general?

What is WOO?

WOO, aka Wrestling Organization Online is an upcoming play2earn game on the Hive blockchain about wrestling. They aim to bring back territory wrestling, where the wrestlers are tradeable nft's. The public beta of the game launched on December the 13th. It's an autobattler in the theme of wrestling. There are 3 undercard events and 1 main event. Winning an undercard event gives you 1 point and winning the main event gives you 2 points, so 5 points are what we're fighting for. There are wrestler NFT's and manager NFT's which gives bonuses to the wrestlers. In the near future you'll be able to earn $WOO, just by playing the game, a real #play2earn game!

A lot could be said about WOO, to get more information about WOO in general, check out the posts of @wrestorgonline and make sure to join their discord: https://discord.gg/woogame

I can’t help but wonder if this means that Netflix is moving into the live television space or maybe pay-per-view? I can’t imagine wrestling fans would necessarily want to miss an event being streamed live just so they could see it on Netflix when it becomes available to stream, so they would likely need to be offering something attractive to fans, and the WWE.

Following what is mentioned in the linked article, it's both: live television and pay per view. ;)

As you mention, would be strange if fans would have to watch afterwards.
