Setting up a new youtube channel – climbing over 40
Well as a few of you might know I am over 40, and as another few of you might know I am a climber. The popularity of bouldering and sports climbing has gained a lot of momentum since the last olympic games. In 2024 climbing will be again in the olympic competitions but with a changed ruleset. The different disciplines speed climbing, bouldering, and lead climbing will have their competitions with their respective medals.
The popularity is measurable in the climbing gyms for sure. The amount of new climbers in the gym is really visible and it has been increasing steadily since the sport is an Olympic one.
Long story short I want to build my climbing channel focussing on my age group.

I don`t care if this niche is big enough or if my channel gets monetized, but I also have that in mind. I believe that the sport's growing popularity will continue over the next decade and after some research, I saw that there are mainly channels for young climbers about young climbers. One "old" climber is from Scotland and is a real idol, but he climbs super hard routes and does not focus on the recreational climber like I am.
The channel is mainly to document my journey towards September where we will be spending a full month in the forest around Fontainebleau.
This is the climbing Mekka for every boulderer, this is where it comes from, this is also one of the hardest areas if you are a climber. You need to train for the special sandstone which give a lot of friction but also wears down your skin pretty fast.
For September I want to be in my best form and the channels content will focus on analyzing my climbing sessions and on my training towards this goal.

As someone who hikes a bit and is over 40, I'll check it out -- I love my local hills, so this might still provide great inspiration!
I like hiking too. Something I should do way more often. Thanks for checking it out! In September when I am strong I will do some hike videos as well as you sometimes have to walk quite a bit to reach the boulders. The surroundings are so nice.

I actually never noticed we had a climbing community on Hive. That said, I've been working on a plan with the SkateHive team, to expand what we're doing to all sports, and launch a layer 2 token much like Leo, and others. It's called Stoken, aka the stoke token, using Proof Of Stoke, and creating a economy of stoke using our Stokenomics. Perhaps we can all join forces, and launch this asap while we're still at the start of a bull run!
I am not the initiator of the climbing community but I like that idea. If there is enough sports manufacturers who would like to expand their markets. It would be awesome to exchange stoken for a bag of chalk, or a new set of cams and carabiners.
That's definitely the goal. Enriching athletes only helps manufactures in the long run, so I can't see why we wouldn't be able to get at least some of them on board.

There was a time I opened YouTube but due to their a lot of restrictions which I see is unnecessary, I gave up
I never tried to spin up a youtube channel before. We will see how it will do. I mainly hope to onboard people to HIVE the sneaky way.
I have heard people expressing their fustration on when they want to start a YouTube channel and how demanding it is
It is a learning curve for sure and as always, consistency is key. We will see if there is demand for my channel at all. First I have to produce some videos :)
