Battle Mage Secrets - Scavo Hireling Rules Weak Magic Battles!

The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is Weak Magic ruleset this time! This means Magic hits armor first before hitting health. It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! This time I was lucky enough to have one - woohoo!

So here's the interesting battle that I encountered.

Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is Scavo Hireling!

Scavo Hireling is one of the important Common cards from the Chaos Legion edition which has a relatively rare Repair ability which could be handy when combined with cards with a ton of armor. Cards with armor, when used well, can help to win battles! For myself, I have a Level 2 version so that's one extra HP which boosts its survivability.

Scavo Hirelings are good at just about everything. Not great, not poor, just good. They enjoy doing menial tasks that don't require too much thought or effort. Whether it's digging ditches, bandaging wounds, or cooking a meal, they can get it done in no time at all. They accept coin as payment but don't really need it. They'd rather be paid in information, stories, and baubles as they love learning new things. Defenders of Praetoria have hired them to build walls and dig traps around the island to prevent the Chaos Legion from getting too close.

Kelya Frendul is my go to summoner for my Water lineups for most of the battles because the armor and speed boosts are applicable to any kind of lineup. The additional armor will definitely come in handy for Weak Magic battle.

Sea Monster is one my most reliable tanks because its Self Heal ability makes it very strong.

Djinn Oshannus is a strong card regardless of ruleset and I decided to bring him in despite this being a Weak Magic battle. His high speed and HP makes a good secondary tank too.

Nerissa Tridawn is one of the strongest cards without abilities for Water, and mana being a luxury, she joins the team this time.

4	Deeplurker	6

Riverboat Captain is dropped as Deeplurker takes over, given that Magic cards are more disadvantaged this time round.

Scavo Hireling is a trusty card with Repair ability, and he is especially vital in Weak Magic ruleset given armor will be very important here.

6	Kulu Mastermind	9

Rounding off the backline would be Kulu Mastermind, who is an extremely strong but expensive card to use. Since Ranged cards couldn't be used, I have opted for him to join this battle.

• Pre Battle: When the lineups showed up, I saw that my opponent employed a Sneak attack strategy and unfortunately, my backline isn't very strong. So let's see what happens.
  

• Round 1: Deeplurker and Kulu Mastermind combined to take down 1 card from my opponent and Scavo Hireling immediately swung into action by protecting Sea Monster with Repair. Good start from the team.
  

• Round 2: With three Sneak attacks from my opponent, it was a matter of time my backline gave way. Fortunately, my frontline was slightly faster and I still hold 1 card advantage.
  

• Round 3: Sea Monster held firm with the help of Scavo Hireling and we were almost done here.
  

• Rounds 4-5: And we were done! More comfortable than I thought.

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? Definitely. Scavo Hireling's Repair provided a good amount of buffer hits for my tank and for a 3 mana card, it's very valuable for Weak Magic battles. Of course, there are also other cards with Repair ability, but Scavo Hireling being Neutral card means that it can fit in any battles easily.
