Battle Mage Secrets - Fire And Regret (Make Up Post) + Thoughts
Before I begin my post, I thought I should share some background about this "make up" post. So I received a comment on my post yesterday that I need to "follow the ruleset theme and respect the challenge rule".
As explained in that post, I did do my battles but I just couldn't find one with Fire And Regret. So I chose one interesting battle which I thought would be helpful to players to share in my post. Anyway, I thought I should share some of my thoughts about this "requirement". But before I do so, given that there should only be 1 post submission per week, I will just put these two posts/links in the same comment and let the Splinterlands team vote the one post that they prefer, so I won't be voted twice.
So here's my thoughts about the ruleset requirement. Of course, feel free to disagree with me, but I am just sharing from my perspective.
Sometimes, it's hard to find the specific ruleset. We all know that the rulesets are random, and with so many new rulesets coming onboard, sometimes it's really, really hard to find the specific ruleset. Of course, one might say to do 24 battles a day, but frankly, players have different level of activity. For example, I would have time to play 24 battles a day over weekends, but probably not weekdays.
Silver and Bronze players have it worse. Gold players can have triple rulesets for battle, while Silver players only have two rulesets. This makes it harder to get the specific ruleset. In other words, a Silver player would on average need to play 50% more battles than a Gold player to find the specific ruleset. So, if you are a Gold player and you think it's easy, do know that not everyone is a Gold player. Fortunately, I am not a Bronze player because they have it even worse. The battles are all single rulesets which means on average, they need to play 3 times as much as Gold players to find a specific ruleset.
Not all battles are worth sharing. So yay, after 20 or 30 battles, you finally got the specific ruleset. But it's a 12 mana battle which finished in 1 or 2 rounds. Likely, it won't be exciting or interesting to share that over a post. But because of that ruleset requirement, players might be forced to share that battle over another one which could be more interesting - because if not, they probably need to hunt for a long while for the specific ruleset to reappear once more.
So anyway, these are my thoughts. So let's jump into Fire and Regret battle this time.
Battle Type & Team Lineup
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
Summoner | Bortus | 3 |
For a Thorn and Fire And Regret ruleset, it definitely had to be a Magic lineup with Djinn Oshannus. Therefore, with limited options, Bortus would be the top choice.
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
1 | Torrent Fiend | 0 |
Torrent Fiend takes the tank position to absorb some initial damage as a filler card while the rest attack from the backline.
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
2 | Djinn Oshannus | 8 |
Djinn Oshannus is the important card for this battle because he has Void ability and together with Bortus, that helps to neutralise Magic attacks.
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
3 | Riverboat Captain | 6 |
Riverboat Captain is an interesting card with an unique Blast ability. I recently start to like this card because Blast actually deal additional damage, making it more powerful than Magi of Chaos or even Deeplurker sometimes.
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
4 | Magi Of Chaos | 6 |
Summing up the lineup would be Magi Of Chaos. I intentionally chose cards with 2 or more Magic damage as I foresee my opponent would put out Djinn Oshannus as well.
- Pre Battle: Both teams put out Water lineups but different summoners. It seemed like I had a slight advantage with Bortus but my opponent had a healer. So let's see where this goes.
- Round 1: Torrent Fiend went off immediately as both Djinn Oshannus became face to face. My opponent gambled on Deeplurker in this Thorns battle.
- Round 2: Interestingly, it was all stalemate in the front as my Djinn Oshannus was not receiving any damage, but all my damage dealt were reversed by their healer as well. So it was just the opposing Deeplurker hunting down the backline.
Rounds 3 to 4: This battle was so boring (oops) so I had to fast forward 2 rounds. The opposing Deeplurker finished my entire backline and went down with Thorns as a consequence too. So officially we have stalemate because none of us are able to take down each other.
Round 5... Round 6... Round 7....
...Round 20: Hooray! We are at Round 20. If you haven't fallen asleep.. Nothing has changed. Haha. So exciting.
Round 21: One card went down to fatigue so it's 1v2 now.
Round 22: It's Djinn Oshannus vs Djinn Oshannus after more fatigue.
- Rounds 23 to 24: I will spare you the agony. In the end, it was a DRAW! Did you manage to predict correctly? Haha.
If you are interested to watch the battle (really?), you can find it here.
Post Battle
Did my strategy work? I usually don't gamble on attack types which are penalised by ruleset, though I see that the opposing Deeplurker did hurt my lineup. This time, my anti Magic lineup didn't work out but actually I didn't lose as well. So it's not a bad result. We live on and continue to fight on!
So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Do you find this post or the previous post more interesting? I certainly thought the earlier one had more interesting strategies to showcase, with all the Martyr and Weapons Training, whereas this one was merely just a dull draw. But at least it fits the Fire And Regret requirement.
As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!
