Battle Mage Secrets - A Battle Filled With Twists And Turns

image.png

The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is Target Practice ruleset this time! This means all ranged and magic units gain the Snipe ability. It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! This time I was lucky enough to have one - woohoo!

So here's the interesting battle that I encountered.

Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is one of the older Legendary cards, Almo Cambio!

image.png

Till this day, Almo Cambio still has a place in my lineup because of his great stats, his speed, his HP, and his Immunity ability. Not many cards at Bronze and Silver leagues have Immunity ability so Almo Cambio is extremely precious when there are Poison battles. Of course, being a card without damage, he can undergo Weapons Training and deal damage too!

As usual, here's the lore for Almo Cambio for your reading interest:

It oozed into the Mount Mox arena as a puddle through one of the drains in the outer walkway. It then took the form of a Gloridax Guard and watched with intent curiosity as the next pair of summoners entered the tournament grounds and began ritualistically summoning their monsters. Then with a breeze, it assumed the shape of an Air Elemental and joined the battle in progress, which made the scoremasters think that Tyrus had performed an illegal resurrection. Once it realized it was the subject of a heated argument, it turned into a small beetle, which was nearly crushed under a falling Serpentine as it made its way to the outer edge of the battle ground, where it inhabited the form of a lamp-lighting servant. When the Lord of Darkness entered the arena, the thing became jealous and took on a monstrous form so large that even the Lord of Darkness became lost in its shadow. From then on, no one could deny that a powerful unknown monster had joined their midst. Its name was Almo Cambio.

Almo is drawn to the arena, never wanting to leave and always watching each battle with keen interest through whichever eyes it has at the moment. Once it became more comfortable around the people of Mount Mox, it began occasionally revealing its true form to others. Almo wears an absurd smile at all times and revels in pleasant conversation with anyone who will indulge it. It seems however to have no voice of its own, but merely mimics the voice of anyone to whom it is speaking. Almo’s good will and friendliness is often mistrusted, especially because of the way it consistently obliterates its competitors on the battlefield when summoned.

Battle Type & Team Lineup

PositionCard/LevelMana
SummonerKelya Frendul4

Kelya Frendul is my go to summoner for my Water lineups for most of the battles because the armor and speed boosts are applicable to any kind of lineup.

PositionCard/LevelMana
1Sea Monster8

Sea Monster is one my most reliable tanks because its self-healing ability makes it very strong.

PositionCard/LevelMana
2Almo Cambio7

A slight change in strategy here, as I slotted Almo Cambio in the 2nd position to absorb Snipe damage. At 12 HP, it should be able to buy a lot of time before my backline gets harmed.

PositionCard/LevelMana
3Djinn Oshannus8

With Broken Arrows in the ruleset, Djinn Oshannus is a very important card because he has Void ability and could reduce Magic damage received. This again buys even more time for the rest of the cards in the backline.

PositionCard/LevelMana
4Deeplurker6

Deeplurker is a strong card because of its Opportunity ability. As I have mentioned quite a few times, Opportunity hits have the potential to turn battle around sometimes so it's always good to have these cards in your lineup.

PositionCard/LevelMana
5Riverboat Captain6

Riverboat Captain is proving himself to be one of the best Soulbound Reward cards with Blast ability, allowing him to deal up to 3 damage per turn. With Snipe in play, he can potentially hit 3 cards.

PositionCard/LevelMana
6Nerissa Tridawn9

Rounding off the backline is Nerissa Tridawn, who has 9 HP and should be able to guard those Sneak attacks, if any.

  • Pre Battle: When the lineups showed up, I sensed that both teams were evenly matched, with Level 2 summoners and a mixture of Level 1 to 3 cards. Should be an interesting battle for my Water team.
    image.png
  • Round 1: A warmup round here, nothing much changed. My opponent used a Taunt card to absorb the damage while my Almo Cambio and Nerissa Tridawn soaked up the Snipe and Sneak hits respectively.
    image.png
  • Round 2: Both teams lost a card in this round. Their tank got hunted down while my Nerissa Tridawn succumbed to the Sneak attacks. Both teams still in the running.
    image.png
  • Round 3: My opponent's Sneak attacks were causing a lot of troubles for my team as I lost my penultimate card in the lineup. On the other hand, my lineup was strong on the front and Sea Monster took down the second card. 4 cards left for each team.
    image.png
  • Round 4: Both teams were evenly matched up till this point and were looking for breakthrough. Finally, all 4 cards stay intact this round while Deeplurker took out one card from the opposing lineup.
    image.png
  • Round 5: The advantage I had came and went by quickly, as the opposing Djinn Muirat was extremely tanky, holding up my progress. My Deeplurker went down this round and that's 3 vs 3 again.
    image.png
  • Round 6: Advantage back to my team once more and my team managed to clear away one more card. Surprisingly my first 3 cards were still standing.
    image.png
  • Round 7: The breakthrough finally came in Round 7, as my opponent clearly had insufficient damage to overcome Sea Monster's self healing. We were almost there.
    image.png

  • Rounds 8 to 11: But nooooo... The next 4 rounds saw the opposing Silent Sha-vi wiping out Sea Monster... And then Almo Cambio went down... At the end of Round 11, I lost all advantage and it was down to sudden death.
    image.png

  • Round 12: A single hit from Djinn Oshannus was enough to scrape through this win! What a relief!

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? I actually am not sure if I won by luck or by strategy, because the result was just too close to call. Kudos to my opponent, who fielded a formidable lineup and my team had to grind hard to scrape this win despite having a strong Water lineup. Maybe Almo Cambio made the difference, having 12 HP to absorb a ton of damage, allowing Djinn Oshannus to stay alive till the end.

What's the Battle Mage Secret? Almo Cambio is still as Legendary!

So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!
