The changing landscape of cost of living in my country

I live in a country where the cost of living seems higher than the money we earn per day, it is only here in my country someone is earning #30,000 and his or her cost of living is #60,000 which is twice what he earns per month.

Some years back, the cost of living in my country was not that high and yet we do complain that it is high, then someone who is earning #30,000 per month can still do whatever they like with their salary because the cost of living was still fair but now, such salary can't fetch anything in fact it is as good as nothing because items keeps getting expensive every day and yet salaries are still the same or let me just say it is reducing.

A customer of mine came to make hair last month and immediately I told her the amount of hair she was about to make she shouted and said, "I can't pay such an amount for hair, it is half of my salary and that means I wouldn't have extra money from my salary if I should make this hair,".

Well, it is not my fault because it is what I bought from the market I will sell, The big attachment now is #4,800, from the market and I sold it for #5000 which means I only gained #200 from it which is not too much even though I transport myself to the market.

So I explained to her, "#5000 for the attachment and workmanship #5000, making #10,000," still she didn't want to agree with the price, so I had to deduct the workmanship because I couldn't sell the attachment less," one thing about this my country is that once something rises it is very difficult to come down again, and that is why the cost of living in my country is getting high every day.

Despite all that, the cost of living in my country is less compared to other countries, I saw an advertisement for snacks they sold 7 pieces of puff-puff for $5 which was too much because $5 can actually make a full bucket of puff-puff here in my country with all the ingredients, so that is a huge difference between the cost of living in my country and some other countries. Though I don't know which country was advertising the puff-puff but I know it can't be here in Nigeria.

With all the high cost of living in other countries, if I should have the opportunity to travel, I wouldn't hesitate because their salary/wages are bigger than ours and that means I will make more money there than here in my country.

More so, they don't work 7am to 7pm over there which means I can multitask at the same time which is not so here in my country, despite the long hours of work here, we get little income for salary.

Who wouldn't want to make more money I would leave my country if such an opportunity came up anytime, because the cost of living might be much but their wages can cover up for me and that is the main reason why I would take the opportunity if anyone comes up for me.

Note: All the images are mine.

10k for making hair? Omo, this is serious, I remember a time it was 6k we complained when we hear people say my hair costs 6k.

The problem is we can't live without some of those thing, they are basic. People earn very little and buy things very expensive, it's just so unfortunate. If I am a woman, I think this would be the right time to start barbing o because I can't spend such money on hair that will only take me two weeks or even less, I will just go and buy food with the money. 😂😂

Relocating will be good, even though life is expensive out there, their jobs pays well.

Rising inflation not backed by the rising salary is the biggest threat to the working people and this may push such talents to migrate in better country .

Yeah, the inflation keeps getting worse and yet salaries are getting lower every day

Yeah and with inflation we expect salary to grow at least, else it's just demand supply inflation and not related to production or manufacturing.

Well analysed. Little wonder our nation have been certified the capital of the poorest people in the world. The government policies are not designed to create wealth for the individuals or take them away from abject poverty.

Many people who are qualified to earn good pay are underpaid.

The basis for which we are currently facing inflation is as a result of poor policies aimed at making the rich richer at the expense of the poor.

As in everything they do is in their favor and not for citizens, I just wish things could get back to normal the way it was before, at least the cost of living is still fair unlike now that it is unbearable

It is quite unbearable. The poor should be allowed to breathe.

I wish the government could allow that but no they only want to make enough money for their generation to come

Greed!
Greed everywhere.
I know we don't have a government,
Because their effort is not felt at all.
Soon, what happened in Senegal will begin to happen here too.

This situation you've experienced isn't very different from Brazil either, here we have to think carefully about what we're going to do with our money so that we can have a little left over for another day or so. Unfortunately, the average salary isn't the best and every day there are increases in prices, taxes and fees, all of which make things very complicated.

We have to be real strategists to survive on what we earn.
