Sharing Tools For Content Creation .:. Hive Humpday Hangout Ep.18 (Wednesday, March 20, 5 PM UTC)

avatar

Before I got slashed by HiveWatchers πŸ˜ƒ, let me explain what I mean with the title for the next #HHHLive show... I think that this topic was suggested by some of you guys in the first "episodes" of this show... Speaking of that, I didn't see any suggestions in the comment section recently, so feel free to drop some ideas for future show topics... Maybe you need help with a certain topic, or you can contribute a lot to a certain topic, leave suggestions in the comment section!

Firstly and most importantly, under "tools" I didn't think of sharing your favorite AI apps as they are not welcomed on HIVE... I don't have a specific opinion about AI content or the usage of those tools, but, indeed, I don't support that content either... I "consume" content where authors leave their own opinions or views around certain topics, or share their personal experience, and that has nothing to do with AI...

I know that many of you aren't native English speakers and I'm also one of you as English isn't my "first" language... (Actually, it's not even second, but rather third... πŸ˜€) Because of that the content creation process can be different from one to another person... Many people create content in their native language and use translators to share the "English version" of the post in addition to the "original version"... To do that, they are using translators... So, if you are one of those, share your tools for these translation purposes...

I was doing like that at the beginning too, but I found that translations can be very messy sometimes... So, I decided to swap into writing directly in the English language, despite having a narrow vocabulary compared to native speakers... I am aware of that, but in the end, the most important is that the message is delivered and I suppose that I do that with my posts fairly well...

Liotes Divider Blue.png

But, my main issue isn't the vocabulary, but rather grammar... I hate it... lol... I never liked it and one of the main obstacles with the English language was those articles, THE and A... As they didn't exist in my native language, it was very hard to get used to them... And I'm still not good with them... lol... That's why I use a tool that helps me with grammar in my posts...

Another tool that I use is one where I create thumbnails for my posts and videos... Canva is my favorite tool for that purpose and I have a paid version of it... It is worth buying it, especially if you are using the app every day... On the other side, the free version will do its job too, so don't worry if you can't afford the paid version...

  • What are your favorite tools for text-checking?
  • Do you use any particular app for image editing?
  • If you create videos, what app do you use?
  • Share the apps that you are using daily when you do the content creation

These will be the main questions in tomorrow's show... I hope that we will be able to share links in the chat channel during the show and help others with their content creation process! Come along, share your tools, and have fun!

AI apps could cause plagiarism on HIVE, so I don't support them here as well.

There are different views about them... I don't like them as posts generated by AI have nothing to do with the author and I like to meet the author and his/her way of thinking and not a machine... πŸ˜€

I'm using two free text tools, Deepl and Gramarly, but I'm seriously considering pro versions...
just because everything is faster, but, of course, each post/translation requires another control :)
I grew up with Photoshop and Premiere and have older paid versions, and I'd like to learn Canva, but it's just not for me... I use Night Cafe Creator for AI images for my posts.
AI video is not yet at a level where I think I can do anything with it. I've tried short snippets, but that's not what I need...

You listed some nice tools there! I use Grammarly, but as well as you, thinking about upgrading it... It is such a great tool...
For photo editing, I used Photoshop long ago when I was on Windows, but for the purpose that I need, Canva is perfect... I'm not doing some crazy photo manipulations... πŸ˜ƒ

Thanks for sharing! I might use your comment in the show! πŸ˜ƒ

Looking forward to the show, I can't believe we are at episode 18. I am using mostly canva the paid version, I use it also for videos where it works quite well. The last month's I experienced many server problems with them, downloading files, but it seems much improved now. I use also ODS for recording and my phone for photos I guess. I would like to have more options on Hive that are on WordPress so we could add more gadgets!

Hehehehe... Neither do I! And I didn't even count those 2 additional "special edition" shows... πŸ˜ƒ

I completely forgot about the video editing option in Canva! Gotta check it out again and see if it would work for my stuff... Thanks for the reminder!

ChatGPT can be a great tool to use to help you with your grammer and phrasing, so don't count that out as a helpful too. It's a great proofreader and copy editor like that. The problem with AI tools is that people rely on it to just spit out content and posting it. You can certainly tell who the culprits are, that's for sure. I have seen some articles by ESL folks and the wording is way to elegant for it to be their content, lol.

But, most tools like that are really AI at their core, like Grammerly. I get why the watchers don't like it and attack people who use it, but if used correctly, AI is an extremely helpful tool.

Yeah, I kind of agree with you on ChatGPT usage... I didn't use it, but I suppose that you can write your OWN post and run it through as a proofreader... The problem is that some people leave the whole job to it and as you said, it is often obvious that is written by AI... Especially when a person writes comments with broken English (like me this one... πŸ˜‚)...

It really sounds like a great space, I say it without stern, there are many who cannot participate in these things due to technical deficiencies or situations, mainly the Latin community It's a shame, I just used Discord myself and I'm a computer scientist πŸ€―πŸ˜…, But well the hive posts are quite interesting too ✌️

Yeah, it is impossible to create an event that can suit everyone as Hivians are all around the globe!
I will try to record the show, so you can visit the blog in 2-3 days and watch the recording... πŸ˜‰

Thanks for the visit!

I think Grammarly is a good tool to have but I don't really use anything besides that. I look forward to the show.

I can't write English without Grammarly... πŸ˜ƒ It is very useful for spelling mistakes, but also for some grammar checks...

The ideal would be to be able to use AI to improve one's own texts since this allows a better understanding of the topic by the reader. Now it is a controversial topic but over time it will prevail, here in Hive too.

I think that Grammarly is ideal for that... You write the posts, proofread it through the app, and you are ready to go... It is still YOUR post and your words, it just does minor changes to the text...

Can you please tell me what country you are from since English is not your first language?
I’ve always wanted to try to use Canva but I am always procrastinating
I’d give it a try though

Can you please tell me what country you are from since English is not your first language?

Currently, I live in Spain, but Spanish is my 4th language... πŸ˜ƒ My native languages are Hungarian and Serbian...

Btw. Canva is great and easy to use... When you try it once, you will always use it... :)

This is an interesting topic and I can't wait to share my experiences. I also sometimes get help from websites for translation but I always check the post before I share it. Sometimes I miss something lol.

I very rarely read my own text again... While I write it, Grammarly helps me with spelling and grammar mistakes, but I don't read it when I finish the text... I was doing like that in school and still have that habit... It's not the best one, as it's better to check your work... πŸ˜ƒ

For my posts I write in my native language and then I translate them using deepl but I reread the translation and correct the mistakes because for example in a post about Splinterlands instead of card the translator writes paper :)
For the covers of my posts I use Photoshop because I learned how to use it a while ago even though I am not an expert
I have not yet explored Ai applications and I think they are very useful but here on Hive I would not use them because better to read a post with errors written by a human than to read a perfect soulless post...

Thanks for sharing the tools that you are using!! Those translators can create some messy translations, so it is important to re-check the text just to see if everything is okay... ;) I don't use Deepl, but I saw some weird translations on HIVE... πŸ˜ƒ
