1408 (2007) .:. Do You Like Stephen King's Horror Stories?

avatar

Who says that you need an expensive CGI effect to create a good horror movie? Who says that you need a deep forest in the dark to create a scary atmosphere? Who needs a chainsaw, huge knives, and a lot of blood, when you have a good story and a great director the movie? Add to that a great actor(s) and you get a perfect recipe for a great horror movie... And all that was filmed, almost entirely, in just one hotel room... Now, let's split it down into small parts that...

untitled.gif

Firstly, the movie from the title is based on a short story by the living legend himself, Stephen King! There is no person who likes horror or thriller movies on Earth that didn't hear about Stephen King... The writer of many best-selling novels and movies like The Shawshank Redemption, Carrie, Children of the Corn, and many, many more... His novels are published in over 35 countries and sold over 300 million copies! And he still writes novels!

The movie 1408 was released in 2007, and it is based on a short story by Stephen King, but the screenplay is written by Matt Greenberg, Scott Alexander, and Larry Karaszewski...

The next step would be to check main roles in the movie... As the movie is from 2007, years around where were John Cusack's career was on its peak! ALong with him, we will find Samuel L. Jackson and Mary McCormack...

And lastly, but not "leastly"... :) The director of the movie is Mikael Håfström, Swedish director well-know by movies like THe Rite (2011), with Anthony Hopkins in the main role, or Derailed (2005), with Clive Owen, Jennifer Aniston, and Vincent Cassel in the main roles... In 1408, he did a fantastic job... He was nominated for many rewards, but unfortunately, didn't win any as a director... But, the movie itself, and John Cusack did...

As I don't want to make any spoilers, I will be short about the storyline of the movie and leave the rest for you when you watch the movie... :)
Mike Enslin is a horror writer who likes to "feel" his books while he is writing them... So, he goes to "spooky" places (usually hotels) and stays overnight to debunk the mystery around... He doesn't believe in ghosts, or paranormal activities until he bumps into the hotel Dolphin and room 1408...

I hope this short post will trigger you to check out this movie (if you didn't watch it before)... If you like horror, or better said thriller movies, in this case, check this out... Having Stephen King signed the short story, you can't make a mistake... :)

Before the end... just a couple of quotes from the movie...

Room 1408: Even if you leave this room, you can never leave this room!

Mike Enslin: He gave me booze! Did he take a sip? I can't remember. Or maybe it was the chocolate! Don't take candy from strangers!

Mike Enslin: Why don't you just kill me?
Room 1408: Because all guests of this hotel enjoy free will, Mr. Enslin.

If you like to feel a bit of the movie before watching it, check out the official trailer...

I think Stephen King is one of my very favorite writers, although I avoid his horror stories.

Hehehehe... Does he have "normal" stories? 😃
I know that I didn't sleep as a kid, for a few months because of movies like Children of the Corn, It, or The Stand 😂

two authors that i read the most are Terry Pratchett and Steva Kralj.

two that are not that famous but if memory serves me right are good :)

Storm of the Century, written by King as a mini series.

The Mist. there are two versions and i think are the same one is just in B&W.
the CGI is not great but overall story is good. and there is not that much CGI.

i would also skip trailers as i feel they are showing a bit to much :)

I loved the movie 1408. In fact, most of the Stephen King books which have been adapted into movies are among my favourite horror shows too! 👻 !PIZZA

I watched the movie first and then I go to read King's story. The first movie by King's story I watched was Pet Sematary, a version from 1989. Good writer.
