Bumpkin Web

No that I live quite rural I will have to become use to things like literally no cell service.

Usually you only see that in trashy horror films, but I guess life is stranger than fiction.

Right now I have a new sim in my phone connected to a second laptop to then share its hotspot like a savage.

Now that does not sound all bad, and I guess it is not, turns out there is always or mostly at least one cell tower around here that tends to remain un-thieved.

The plan then is to just have a backup of ever cell network in town. I am gonna be like those dodgy dudes with two cellphones and 4 numbers.

Like wtf do you do with more than 2 Numbers? I get a second backup one which is good for ghost messaging and swearing people but I am not so sure about a 3rd and 4th.

Fortunately it is more just bumpkin than country and the Tech should come fix the damn satellite soon for more reliable internet and then I can get back to using my phone as a glorified wakeup alarm.

I don't think it is a case of "oh deary me no internet" either, I can do lots without but when I do need it then well I need it to get shit done, the obvious communications aspects aside.

I think the oddest bit is frankly that the network literally goes away though, not that there is no LTE but there is literally no network and the phone just says "Emergency Calls Only" , it is such a good reminder of just how pathetic infrastructure still is when you aren't in one of the cashcow regions.

Please tell me you're in the Overberg so we can at least sit and talk some shite when the internet disappears. Again.

p.s. we've been living like savages for a while now. 😆 You get used to it. Plus... the stars are fucking awesome

Send love, P. Hope this finds you through the on and off internet of amazing things. I won't wait here for a reply then 🙂

I am in Limpopo , yeah for now the backup using MTN seems to work ok but they say all the cell networks can be down for long periods at times here so guess it good for now. I mainly can do whatever I need on my local development environment so the stars will have to wait for power to also go out and laptop to die haha. Hope you had a good weekend !PIZZA and some good stargazing :)

Limpopo! What even? I'm out of the loop! 'scuse development pun.

Local is simpler and faster anyhoo. We gotta learn to work around the infrasctructure meltdown now. I reckon it skills us up for the End of Times thing anyway so. We Saffas will be waaaaaay ahead of the pack when the comet hits 👍

The stars though. Yes! Clear summer nights all the way down to the horizon! I forgot in the winter.

Have an easy Monday, P ❤️

Definitely not being communicated in these times can be a problem. There is nothing left but to use our wits to connect to the world when in reality the world should be connecting to us.

Using more than one cell phone is not a bad thing, although the other time I saw someone using them and the truth is that it seemed unreliable.
