Elon Musk just gave 5.7 Billion to the UN in an effort to eliminate World Hunger.

Maybe he should have just joined VYBrainium ? Is VYB the answer ?

I think that if more people joined Vybraimiun.com and shared their Creative work, and people donated VYB $$$ via upvotes and transfers we could very well end world Hunger.

Or at least help. What do you think ?

Elon Musk gave a mysterious $5.7 billion donation weeks after he dared the UN to show him its plan for solving world hunger

This massive donation to an undisclosed charity came just weeks after executive director of the World Food Program David Beasley told CNN on Oct. 26 that the world’s elite needed to “step up” to end global food insecurity, specifically citing Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. Beasley said that “$6 billion [would] help 42 million people that are literally going to die if we don’t reach them. It’s not complicated.”

I'm wondering who is going to make sure they don't waste it. Big money always ends up creating corruption.

Very true. Most of that 6 Billion will go to CEO pay, benefits, bonuses, perks, travel to private islands and gifts to friends and family. The same as happens everywhere.

Works for me.

The problem with imported food donations is that it destroys the local food producers' livelihoods.

Temporary 'donation imports' are helpful in the immediate aftermath of a natural disaster, but when done constantly and consistently, such efforts to 'alleviate hunger' end up being genuinely counter-productive.

The funds need to be specifically used to either purchase food from local merchants to distribute to the poor or used to provide startup loans to small businesses to create local jobs (or some other initiative that does not disrupt local markets or create adverse incentives).

The documentary film Poverty, Inc. does a good job demonstrating how the massive 'donations' of rice to Haiti (e.g. from the U.S.) destroyed the livelihoods of local food producers and drove many Haitians into a cycle of dependency on foreign aid.

It is impossible for local producers to compete with FREE. Imported donations will drive them out of business, regardless of how well-meaning the donors might be.

BTW, the director of Poverty, Inc. (Michael Matheson Miller) will be on campus here in Stillwater for a screening of the film on April 5. If any of you happen to be in town, please stop by.

There is this well-known saying: Give a man a fish and he has food for a day. Give a man a fishing rod and he has food for a lifetime, or something like that.

I would refrain from "give a man" at all. It is better that this "man" finds himself in an environment where he is not prevented from being able to take care of himself. The stupid talk about "save the poor children from hunger" is an eye-wash that only minds that want to be given something themselves all the time can fall for.

I wonder how you manage to hold your position at a teaching institution with your liberal attitude. Can you tell me how you do it?

It helps being in the mid-south in general and Oklahoma in particular.

It also helps that a lot of donors to our university are successful alums who believe in the importance of individual freedom and competitive markets.

I teach entrepreneurship and we have an extremely vibrant School of Entrepreneurship. And, socialism (i.e. government ownership and/or control over the means of production) is about as antithetical to entrepreneurship as you can get.

Thanks for your answer. Any means of monopoly control over the means of productions and services is a trap for people wanting to do their business.
I am happy to hear that you are able to do what you do.
