Hi everyone, I hope you have a great start of your extra long weekend, depending where in the world you are I guess, in my part of the world we celebrate Easter, and while I'm not religious I enjoy the extra free time for sure! 😃
Welcome back to my Splinterlands blog, here I will be talking about my favorite game at least twice a week to take part in the two challenges the Splinterlands team offers us to spread the word about this game and earn a little extra for ourselves, it's a great way to build your deck pretty much for free, a true win-win opportunity.

This weeks Battle Mage Secrets is about one of the recently added rulesets: Fab Four!

Funny when you're able to use less cards, you get a whole different dynamic in your setup, because you don't have a lot of monsters to put in front of your backline, now you have to consider if it's wise to put archers there, unable to fire when they get to the front...

I already made a Social Media Challenge post about this ruleset when it just launched, and I could recycle it but I wasn't sure if that would be against the rules 😁 and because I like making these posts and battle every day, I got another Fab Four battle to write about, different opponent of course, but a very similar team I was fighting, coincidence?
This was the team I was fighting in my previous post:

Later in this post you will see what my opponent brought me this time...

To find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, check out the Splinterlands post here.

Last weeks, I've been fighting my ranked battles primarily in Wild, since Modern is still very hard to play in... Because of this I dropped all the way down to Bronze League (not by losing of course, by not playing in Modern..) and I had to claw my way up again to have a decent starting point in Modern for when the rest of the changes go live on April 2nd.
I play with a mostly Chaos Legion Gold deck, so it was easy getting out of Bronze and I pushed up into Silver 1, where I found the max level players again, it takes them a long time to get to their own leagues, but of course so will Silver players feel when they face me!
Bottom line: I'm still in Wild 😁

The battle I want to share for this post is a high mana battle, certainly for only 4 cards! A 54 mana Wild League, Up to Eleven / Fab Four / Unprotected battle with the Death and Dragon splinters locked out, since most Thorn monsters are in Death and Dragon, this was less of a worry because of the Amplify ruleset, most obvious tanks I would face are Grund or Drybone Barbarian, since they have high HP and very good damage and don't rely on armor. I only used 43 mana of the available 54, my opponent didn't use it all either, 44 mana. I like Grund a lot for the Fab Four ruleset, it hits VERY hard, it needs the Taunt support from Slipspawn to stay alive longer though.

First look at the battlefield:

I don't like seeing Gladiator cards in the other team because they are very dangerous! The team is VERY similar as the team I was facing in my previous post, Adelaide is now switched for Renova because it makes no sense bringing a repair in the Unprotected ruleset of course, also my Opponent used a different tank, I think the Drybone Raider would have been a better choice to be honest, we both have to problem that we first have to eat trough the taunts HP before they real destruction can start, after that, my Affliction will stop Uriel from healing, it's also attacking every other turn so hopefully I can take him out before he can do serious damage.

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Immortalis - reason: Primarily the Void ability here.
  • First position: Grund - reason: High damage Double Striker with Trample.
  • Second position: Mycelic Slipspawn - reason: Taunt with Forcefield.
  • Third position: Goblin Psychic - reason: Heal, counter-heal and Silence.
  • Fourth position: Drybone Raider - reason: Double Striking archer, when it gets to the front it becomes a Double Striking melee monster.

The Battle:

Round 1: Uriel is already hurt pretty bad but he's going to heal before Grund attacks again, and then attack, probably killing Grund. Both of the backline magic monsters in the other team don't do any damage to my taunt. Contuma is hitting Grund hard though...

Round 2: My tank is gone, that's never a good thing! Good thing the enemy Taunt is gone too, so I'll probably kill Uriel this round, and with Contuma doing the only damage, I can out heal that for a while while I kill her.

Round 3: Short rounds, so I was just a second too late with my screenshot 😆... O boy! Uriel is still alive, but he's only healing this round!, Contuma attacks before my team does but that's ok, I think..

Round 4: Good! Finally Uriel is dead, I'm good now, I can outheal the incoming damage.

Round 5: Last round! the silenced Renova isn't doing any damage.

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

Just a little over a half SPS and a good amount of RP, the SPS isn't great but I'll take it. Wild is more fun nowadays, I'm curious to see what the new changes will bring!

I really just fought this battle before I started making a thumbnail and this post, I needed a nice Fab Four battle to talk about 🙂

So making my own thumbnail and a complete posts takes about 1.25 hours 🙂

I hope to catch you next week!
