The lie I regret telling🥹

Story story…….Once upon a time, time time…… this story I’m about to tell
is a story I regret a lot I wish it never happened,I wished I didn’t tell a lie🥹 cause now I have lost someone close to me.
It all started like this, one hot afternoon, Aunty Mary told me about her love life with my senior brother, mind you she is older than my senior bro with 10 good years. Aunty Mary was so in love with my brother that she didn’t care about what people would say I told her that the idea and relationship doesn’t make sense that she would be the talk of town and everything and if my parents find out they will be disappointed cause they placed her so high, she should not hurt them but all my talk fell on deaf ears so I had to play along in other not to betray her cause to be very honest Aunty Mary has been so good to me and my family she has done a lot when I say “she has done a lot” I mean alottttttttttt.

One evening, we were outside her compound, she looked into my eyes with unwavering trust and asked, "Do you think your brother loves me?" The truth was a jagged pill I was not prepared to make her swallow. In that moment, i faltered, telling her what i thought she wanted to hear, "Of course,Aunty Mary, My brother loves you deeply. He's just not great at showing it sometimes, but it’s obvious that he loves you.

The lie I told was meant to shield her from heartache, to preserve the happiness she seemed to find with my brother.However, the implications were far-reaching. One faithful day my mom called me and asked me what is going on between Addi and Aunty Mary? I was shocked and confused on how she knew or suspected but knowing my mom she is always right with her instincts, i didn’t say anything and she left.

I ran to aunty Mary’s place to tell her that it’s seems my mom knows something about my brother and you she said she was planning to tell my mom, I was scared that my mom would be mad at me for hiding the truth from her, so I didn’t wait for Aunty Mary to tell her herself i went home and I told my mom everything.

I didn’t know that what Aunty Mary intended to do was not to tell momsi the truth cause she knows that momsi would be very upset and I already told my mom everything, it now dawned on me that I have betrayed her by telling my mom, and my brother was not even interested in her he just wanted to have his way with her. Chaii!!!!!!! I felt very confused after some minute momsi showed up with a bucket of water and she poured it on her in the presence of every one in the compound I was shocked, momsi warned her to stay away from her son and all.she went inside her room and started crying. The moment I realized I deceived her,I was very sad 😞 I carried the heavy burden of knowing my lie played a role in her pain. I often wonder what would have happened if i had been honest. The whole thing etched in my conscience, a reminder of the consequences of well-intentioned but misguided dishonesty.
At the end i learnt the value of truth, even when it's difficult to convey. I resolved to be a more sincere and candid friend, understanding that sometimes, the most caring act is to help someone confront reality rather than shield them from it. In the end, my journey through this experience has made me a wiser and more compassionate individual, determined to make amends for the lie that once cast a shadow on a friendship i deeply cherished.
