4 x 6.7km on the hour

A few friends of ours are training for a last person standing event later on in the year. So I thought I would tag along, join in and see what all the fuss is about. It's a different format of running/walking, basically everyone is a loser unless you are the last person standing and do one more laps than everyone else. Its a 6.7km course and you just have to be back at the starting point on the hour to start the next lap.

Today was just training so they set a maximum of 4 laps, some did less. On race day they just keep doing laps until there's only one left.

So it took me 4hours to do 26.8km.

It started off pretty easy but by the 3 lap I was really starting to feel it and added some walking. The best part of this format is you all meet up on the hour for the start of each lap no matter how fast you have done the last lap.

So there is plenty of time to catch up and have a good chat. Everyone seems to be trying out different strategies, some would run fast as possible and then rest, other would run for 5 minutes then walk 5 minutes.

The course they chosen was the Fodder Forest parkrun course plus a bit more so I knew it well.

I got some photos on the 3rd lap.

They have done a great job with all the board walks through the swampy areas.

And they have linked up lots of bike path so you could go for miles.

I have only posted the first lap strava screenshot the second lap was slightly faster before slowing right down on lap's 3 and 4.

I can imagine that gets hard after a few reps. I've not tried anything like it yet. I ought to look out for more local events.

My running group are trying to get me to enter the event. But I can still remember the 100km run/walk I did during lock down. !LOL I would not say never again but would need to be a lot better prepared with a lot more big back to back runs under my belt.
