Just a week to new year - what do you plan not to accomplish?

Just like everyone, we’ve all got our goals and plans for the new year. At times we make them bigger than our ability just to see how far we can go. And sometimes we make them so small that we can easily attain them in order to get that sense of achievement.

We are just a week to 2024 and I can feel the fear of many goals and plans I hope to accomplish. Some I’ve already put into action, and some are still pending - like having to make sure I write every day all thru 2024.

Big or Small

which is better?

Sometimes I wonder which would be a good goal - a small one that’s easily attainable or a big one that surpasses many people's expectations but might seem ambiguous and elusive.

We don’t know which is good, better, or best among the categories of goals we set up for ourselves. Some people like to go big(on goals)only to get to the point of resistance and realize that they can’t move forward any longer.

energy loss

One reason might be that it’s draining them of much more energy than they imagined both physically and mentally and in all possible areas.

It's at that point that they have to sacrifice some things and activities like spending time with family, creating time for reflection, and having that quiet moment all to themself.

choices

I like to wonder about human behaviors and what types of things nudge people to make the choices they make.

Many times we've got to decide what we want and what we don't want, what we want to accomplish and also what we don't want to accomplish. There are things we don't want to accomplish that might be far more beneficial than what we intend to accomplish.

Life is relative to what we accomplish and what we don’t. We are what we do and at the same time, we can be something just because of those things we don’t do. For instance, there are goals we set to attain and also some goals we are set to not attain(like drinking every Friday night).

hive goal

I want to write on Hive daily but what about being able to write with ease without rushing or the urge to publish a post just for the sake of posting something so I can attain the goal of writing daily?

That’s just an example and it doesn’t only apply to writing on Hive alone. Sometimes it could be about work where you wish to work hard to buy yourself things you want, which means you'll spend more hours at work than with your family.

Sometimes we like to set big goals to satisfy our urge for success or to prove we can achieve anything.

But can we?

However, the fact is that life is a matter of trade-offs, and going for one thing means we won’t be able to go for something else.

In the world of multitaskers( of today) it’s even more common than ever.

But if you’ve noticed, you’ll realize that we humans are not that good at multitasking, and trying to do more than one thing at a time only leaves us not doing any at the end of the day. And even if we do, we usually can’t do it to the best of our ability when compared to doing it one activity and one goal at a time.

I also feel the rush of achievements especially at times like this but unlike the past years of making New Year resolutions I would be bothered about things I might accomplish but rather things I won’t accomplish like putting up a post just for the sake of putting up a post without the intention of wanting it to be read by others.

What do you plan not to accomplish?

With big goals, the trade-offs is often high and we experience this later when we've already embarked on it. This is what I've realized this past year, some trade-offs may not be worth it in the long term, especially if we realize what we'll be giving up in the process.
