Selling Out our conscience for a penny, A personal experience of bribery and corruption.

Hello, Hive.

A dishonest way to earn more should never be at the risk of others lives

We are at a point where money is causing more harm than good. People prefer to receive a few pennies as opposed to doing the right thing for their community.
I went to a chemist store today to get my refill of routine drugs, and out of the blue, we had people from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control(NAFDAC) come for inspection. They came with policemen in uniform, which gave me a scare at first since police are no longer our friends.
They could charge you anything at any time of the day just to exploit you. These days, whenever you see a policeman come your way, it is best to find another route instead of falling victim to false charges and exploiting the case they can form against us, which we may never get justice from in a court of law.

After a thorough look at the store, they noticed that the store owner has broken the law and stored some drugs that are prohibited for sale in such small pharmacies. I do not know what the law says about punishment for this kind of crime, but after the store owner had pleaded with them, I noticed her squeeze some cash into their hands, which marked the end of the raid.

Next, they moved into the next store, selling foodstuffs and provisions, picking a few items that had passed their best-before date.
Which implied that they were equally meant to confiscate the illegal drugs from the women and have them destroyed. They chose not to do so because they had been bribed with some money and were pleading.

Seizing some items from the provision store owner, they proceeded to take severe measures against him since he was willing to bribe them.

The duty of this organization is to clear our stores and warehouses, making sure that no expired products or damaged food items are sold to the populace. Many of the indigent people in this community are not elite and do not have the knowledge of what is healthy and what is not. But it seems like the job description has been corrupted by those willing to sell their co-science for a token .

Everybody is stranded in the country regarding finances and meeting daily bread; this is why people are compromising their job ethics just for money.
The masses can go to hell or die of food poisoning, which could have been averted if this organization was working well.
I heard that they could charge as much as 1.5 million or $1.908 naira to any store selling fake, expired, or damaged products as a fine. Instead of a proper sanction, they get paid this money and let the store continue to work.

In conclusion

The economy might be harsh, and we hardly get enough finance for a daily living, but seeking to earn some more finances for themselves at the risk of the lives of so many people is really sad..

The country might be corrupt, but it is glaring that not only the leaders are involved but almost every individual living here. Corruption run in their full capacity in every sector of the economy.

This happened right before my eyes and made me wonder what the fate of a country like this would be if both the government and employees plus the citizens themselves take with levity life threatening cases as this .
The consequences of eating fake and expired goods is really a deadly one and with just a few penny one can rule out the punishment for been involved in acts like this .

Some people are greedy and do not care if they are risking the lives of others or not, as long as they can satisfy their selfish act and interest. Imagine taking bribe from a shop with fake products and left him alone, they sell these stuff to people and before you know it, the death rate keeps increasing.

To be at the safer side, one just needs to check the expiry dates of goods and drugs before consumption, I really pity those who can't read, they must have been using these expired products. May God help this country

This is is an ungodly act. Selling expired foods is not only a serious offence , but also detrimental to our health . Most of our food inspections are only after their pockets. This country is not safe any more.

Bribery and corruption rules the day among law enforcement agents nowadays. They don't care whether the citizens are affected negatively or not only the money they want to collect.

Greed has led many to a disastrous end, I hope the agencies work harder to eradicate such greedy tendencies
