For beginners and some veterans it is easy to go to google and search for Terra chain protocols. However often than not the search results near the top are links to scam websites. In fact if you go onto google now and search for Anchor protocol you will find links such as these at the top of the results:

It is Terra chain homepage of all the protocols that are being worked on or active on Terra. Currently there are 66 projects and counting but each one has direct link to the actual website. In addition there is a filter for easier to search through the different projects.

Never give out your seed phrase!

The only time you actually see your seed phrase is when you created your wallet. From then on you should never have to enter the phrase again unless you are importing wallet from one computer to another. In any case when you enter a project protocol there is no reason to enter your seed phrase. It is an automatic red flag if you are asked to provide your seed phrase.

Whitelist Websites on Terra Station Wallet

Another method to protecting from spam sites is to whitelist websites on your Terra Station wallet. Enter your wallet through Chrome and click "extensions" icon. It will then pop out three dots next to extension, click "options" and then "Site Access" to select "On Specific Sites". A window will pop up where you can add url of the sites you want to whitelist. Any other sites not listed on the whitelist will not be added to Terra Station hence not connected to your wallet.

Conclusions

Another means of protecting yourself is to use a hardware wallet. Ledger is compatible with Terra chain and it provides an additional layer of protection.

If there is one thing you can take away from this post to protecting yourself it is to never give out your seed phrase. There is no reason to provide seed phrase on a website ever.
