Staked SPS vs Delegating Staked SPS

About two days ago I began delegating majority of my staked sps. At the time I was renting out at 1 sps for 0.005 DEC. This meant 10k sps staked potentially yield 350 DEC minus fees. The staked sps is technically gone from my account for seven days when I execute the delegation. Now imagine 100k sps delegated equating to a sweet 3500 DEC minus fees for seven days. Doing absolutely nothing to pull in over 3K DEC is very tempting and considering I have been on several DEC spending spree it seemed like a good idea to delegate and earn back some DEC.

The drawback of delegating staked sps is that I yield less in rewards when playing matches and earning a win. My battle sps would drop and so would my rank points which equates to less reward chests. With that in mine there would be a break even between earning DEC in leasing staked sps and how many reward chests I am willing to accept for playing 25 matches daily.

I decided to lean toward earning DEC with delegation as going rate is about 15 DEC per SPS. Seven days 3500 / 15 is about 233 sps yield relatively speaking. This is only assuming I get 0.005 DEC per staked sps and excluding fees.

On the flip side in reward chests I am down from 7-9 gold chests to 3 chests. The sps yield is like 1/4 the amount. So for seven days I am missing out around 6 * 7 = 42 chests or so. Not including the less season reward chests too!

In the second link above it is official splinterland info on earnings per each ranking reward. The likelihood I am able to pull more and better rewards beyond potions increases with each ranking. Now with gold league I have slightly better chance for epic and legendary pulls. I would assume if I had more reward chests the odds for a pull for such a rarity card greatly increases.

In my opinion just pulling a legendary within seven days would be worth more than delegating the sps. The value of the legendary won’t be just measured in Dec burn rate but also in its utility. Therefore for next week I intend to keep majority of my staked sps for my own use and not passively earn DEC through delegation.
