Hi there!
Nice to read from you again, even if it´s not so good news.
I´m very interested in your immigration status, how you manage to stay there long time.
I guess it´s not via the financial solvency route, like 55k in the bank for temporary residency.
Also, where are you nowadays? Playa del Carmen?
Cheers and soldier on! 😘

Hi my friend! It's so nice to hear from you!
I've extended my tourist visa twice now, which would usually be possible by leaving the country and coming back. But since they're not handing out the full 180 days every time to every one, I actually had to pay someone to get the stamp. So now I'm legal but my kids are overstaying haha.

Right now, there are two different options for me. 1 I can apply for a Regularizacion de documento vencido. This is for people who's tourist visa is expired and who were here in 2021, which is the case for us. Now, they have been extending this each year. We only just heard that it applies for us.
However, I would have to wait until my tourist visa expires, which is in May.
With this, I'd get a 4 year temporary residency but I'd still have to apply for the work permit separately. Making it very costly all in all.

Option 2 would be to apply for a 1 year work permit. It's a lot cheaper, although I would have to leave the country to Belize or Costa Rica or so.
After the one year one, this can be renewed for another 3 years, and then permanent residency after that.

Either way, I will have to have a job that pays decent money in order to be able to do either. And here, I'd need the work permit before I can start work. So it's a bit tricky either way.

Oh and yes, we're still in Playa del Carmen.

You're very welcome. The good thing about having all these ups and downs and experiences now is that eventually, I'll be able to help others with these things. I now know how to immigrate to Mexico without too much hassle, and also how to import any pets. So the learning curve is steep but worth it in the end I believe.

Do you still have plans to move away? I know you were looking into several places before. :) Anyway, you're always welcome here if you ever decide to check out Mexico. I have yet to travel to other places (other than Acapulco last year) but I know the Riviera Maya quite well now. It's lovely here. 😊

I don´t have real plans, just interests.
Right now I´m also helping a friend (depression and panick attacks),
mainly by just being there for her and walking her dog when she´s down.
But yeah, I got this vague idea that I don´t want to spend old age in Germany, which is on a downward slope.
I am following a German settler project in Bolivia and in Paraguay (El Paradiso Verde, they are also on Youtube), also Belize sounds interesting, no need to learn Spanish and good diving.
Mexico I appreciate for their anti-corona-fascist politics, and it´s a big and diverse country with a lot to offer.
So thanks for the invite, much appreciated.

Your friend is lucky to have you. It's so important to have someone who cares in those cases. You're a good friend!

I'll check out El Paradiso Verde.

I love Belize. Or at least I did when I was there around 15 years ago. I heard a lot has changed since but I will have to find out for myself. I may have to go there if I apply for the work permit so it'll give me a chance to see if lots has changed or not.

Yeah, Spanish is an issue but I am learning and trying to practice as much as I can because I feel it's really important to be able to speak it since I want to immerse fully and not be a tourist forever.
Mexico is huge and it is very diverse. That's one of the things I love about it.
I want to explore more of the country as soon as we can, even if it's just to get it out of my system because we really love it here in Playa, and the Riviera Maya is just amazing.
But then again, once our Spanish is a bit better, we'll make friends all around the country, I'm sure.

Have a great weekend!
