Why The Dutch Farmers Protest

Protests of farmers spread across European countries. The first protests are made by the Dutch farmers.

Dutch farmers are protesting because of a new law that aims to reduce nitrogen oxide and ammonia emissions by 50% by 2030. These gases are produced by livestock, and some estimates say that 30% of livestock farms will close under the new planhttps://equity.guru/2022/07/08/dutch-farmers-protest-explained-and-why-it-matters/

The Dutch is one of the biggest food exporters in Europe. The income of the country gets a lot of support from farming.

Food exports are an important source of income for the Netherlands. The Dutch economy relies heavily on the agriculture sector and on exports, to the tune of 83% of its GDP.https://equity.guru/2022/07/08/dutch-farmers-protest-explained-and-why-it-matters/

The Dutch farmers are dissatisfied with the ruling party's political decision. They go out on the streets and protest the policy.

Look at the chart! Agriculture accounts for only 14% of total greenhouse gas emissions. Electricity and heat production, Industries, and transportation are the biggest gas emission contributors. When the policy makers ask to reduce 50 % Nitrogen emission from the livestock farming, the farmers think that they are targeted. Reducing 50% Nitrogen emission means to cut 30 % of production.
On the other hand, the war between Russia and Ukraine will cause food shortages in the coming months in Europe. If the Dutch farmers cut production by 30%, the food shortage will be more extreme. Additionally, the policy of reducing the gas emissions from farming is not only in the Netherlands but also in some other European countries like Germany, Poland, and other countries.
How about industry, electricity and heat production, and transportation? They account for 60% of all greenhouse gas emissions.

Do you still believe an Economic Forum that claims to be able to save the world from climate change?

Most of the group members are conglomerates, which are giant companies in the world. They claim that they will stop climate change by reducing gas emissions by 50 %. In fact, farming only contributes to 14 % of the global gas emissions.

I'm not a vegetarian but we have far too many animals, at least in Germany. Our water must be cleaned more and more expensive and these costs are borne by the general public. If the farmers would bear these costs themselves, then everything would be good but they would not be competitive. Cheap meat is no longer sustainable in my opinion.
