The fundamentals of 'Hardwork & Success' is quite complicated, isn't it?

Despite being someone that has done so much in life to be successful, if the result you are getting appears to be fairly pitiful, there will surely come a time when you will have to ask serious questions about what is going wrong.

  • Have you reached that point in your life?

  • Do you know anyone that has reached a point where they are asking such questions?

Lemme tell you something;

So many people are dealing with a feeling of dejection and a high level of demotivation. A good number of these happen as a result of a series of uninspiring results they have been getting despite the level of effort they make.

You know, we all like to think that our effort should be proportional to our success. It can easily be imagined that a lot of people would love to live in the fantasy of an ideal world where success can be measured by the level of effort we make.

While the above viewpoint plays out for some people, the reality that faces some other people is quite different.

Little wonder why there are so many people who work multiple jobs and spend the vast majority of each day doing things that will likely make them successful, yet they struggle to make ends meet.

Think about that.

It's quite complicated, isn't it?

As humans, the desire to be successful is something that defines us to the core. It is certainly obvious that the vast majority of us started this year with a bunch of plans which we would want to achieve.

Having such plan(s) or goal(s) is one thing. Knowing the exact things you have to do to achieve those is a different thing altogether.

I've been doing a lot of thinking about what I have to do to have a successful 2023. One of the things that have become fairly obvious in my case is that it's not enough to work hard. Hard work 'alone' is not a strategy I can count on. I need to tangle it up with other factors.

The year is still fresh, so I won't dig deep into those 'other factors' I'm exploring. I just hope things will turn out a lot better for me and also for y'all.

Have a delectable 2023 experience.

The main thing is not to burn out mentally

I concur. As far as we don't burn out and continue doing what's necessary, we will always be steps closer to achieving our goals.

When I was a kid we were relatively poor because my parents both worked in "vocations", ie. things that helped other people and therefore paid badly. My mum cared for disabled people and my dad was a fireman. It gave me a kind of bitter view of how the world worked.

Now I sit on my arse at a computer and can earn both from my career and side gigs, the combination of which is a tiny percentage of the hard work they put in.

The UK pays our nurses so badly they are having to strike to be able to afford to live without requiring food banks, and the government and newspapers are trying to turn the country against them as somehow greedy. During a pandemic.

Goes to show that hard, altruistic work for the betterment of humanity is not just badly paying, it is actively punished by society.

Oh. Thanks so much for sharing that background information about your family. It helps for us to look at the way things were done and make effort to break out of that cycle.

I live in Nigeria and I can say that most of our Bankers, Doctors, Lecturers and bunch of other people in fancy vocations always work so hard, yet their earning is very measly. It's weird.

Universities were on strike for 8 months in 2022 because of this same issue and I don't see it stopping anytime soon.

It sure goes to show that hardwork 'alone' is not enough.

They say that "knowledge work" lifts people out of poverty but now we have AI, that is likely to no longer be true either. When you can type what you want into a box and get an answer, an image, etc, who needs to pay a salary to a human being?

Hahah... Makes a lot of sense. This is the best time for people (especially young folks) to rethink their career choices.

Things are changing so fast.

Hey @kenechukwu97 it's nice to read from you after a while.

You know, we all like to think that our effort should be proportional to our success.

Most times it is proportional but the question is how do you maintain the proportionality? What are the plans to stay afloat?.

And other times, it's not just about working hard but working smart. Trying to juggle things up a little bit would help a great deal.

Hi. Happy New Year to you. Hehe. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this topic.

...it's not just about working hard but working smart.

Alot has been said about this, but it still feels like it's not be spoken of as much as supposed. This has to be praticed my so many people to stand higher chances of achieving whatever they set as a target

It's just about sensitizing the public...... hopefully, they heed to the sensitization

I agree with you that in order to achieve success, commitment and determination are not enough but other factors must also be intertwined.

In my opinion, the first thing to do is define for us what success is; it seems obvious but it is not because success can derive from many things and in my opinion it is something quite subjective.

Nice post, congratulations! And thanks for sharing!

You got me thinking right there with your comment and I completely concur.

Indeed, success is one of those terms that looks self-explanatory, but it's mostly defined subjectively. A clear definition of what it entails in each context wouldn't be a bad idea.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this

Sometimes if you feel that way, it's better to focus on smaller goals which will eventually lead to the main one. Then your small victories will motivate you :) ..

Yeah. I think that will also help. Getting those little wins will be a good foundation to build for bigger wins in the long run.

It's something I once saw someone very successful tell a person who was really down, and saying that they couldn't get anything right. I believe it's a powerful tool to use if you are doubting your course! It'll also give you a more realistic timeframe for when you can expect to get there...
