The dangers of censorship are beyond whatever advantage it may have.

You must have seen headlines about censorship, cancel culture and the banning of certain accounts in places like Twitter, YouTube and co. I'm never a big fan of such and I don't think I will ever agree to any policy that holds people back from saying the truth as they see it.

Nonetheless, I can't help but notice that there are folks who have a habitual pattern of provoking people online and using deception, lies and contemptuous words to say things that are targeted at tarnishing the image of someone else. They do this to draw attention to themselves and get likes or clicks.

I've seen a good number of such accounts, mostly on Twitter, and I can easily paint a picture of someone like that, setting up his/her account and sitting in front of a laptop for a couple of hours to cause mayhem with loads of shitposts and hateful comments.

As far as I can tell, this is usually the case for people who do not have a high-valued brand name online. They probably feel some cheap thrill while they attack people's opinions with anonymous shitposting. It gets worse when you consider the rate at which such accounts are growing. It makes you feel like what we've seen so far is only the beginning.

An attempt to curb this is one of the superficial reasons behind the hate speech legislation and stuff like censorship which is becoming a trend in Web2 social media platforms. The problem though is that I'm not a big fan of such because there have been enough scenarios to prove that it can be misused to stop people from saying things as they see them. The dangers of censorship are far and beyond whatever advantage it may have.

It makes you wonder if there is an alternative way to deal with people who are only interested in using deceptive words and lies to cause mayhem online. Is there a way to serve them what they deserve without having to bring censorship into the picture?

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma
