Cultural Diversity; Some are trivial while others are complex.

There is an existing diversity all over the world and it exists in various undeniable forms. The ones that are at the forefront are things like racial diversity, ethnic diversity, cultural diversity, religious diversity, and whatnot. I also believe that there is an existing diversity of ideas and people struggle to see things from other's points of view.

The bit about cultural diversity is what this post would be about, thanks to this week's writing prompt.

As someone from a Country like Nigeria which already has above 250 ethnic groups, it is very obvious to notice the existing differences that exist in the culture of each group and region. Some of these existing cultural differences are trivial while others are significantly complex.

Because of how far I've traveled around the country and the associations I've had at different stages of my life, even when I don't want to admit that there is cultural diversity, I just can't stop myself from noticing that the dude next door have some elements of his culture which are very different from mine.

It all starts from differences in language, right? That's pretty much the obvious thing whenever cultural diversity is up for discussion. In Nigeria, we have a lot of languages and each language is peculiar to certain regions of the Country. We use English as our national language because that's the only thing that allows us to make any sense of what someone from another region is saying.

I will take my experience for an example;

My native language is Igbo and I've had to live in a region where Hausa is the major language. I stayed there for a whole year and I'm currently in my third year of living in another region where Yoruba is their major language. I can't speak any of these other languages even if my life depended on it.

And, I live in their midst. Of course, I know all about cultural diversity because I realized that there are a lot of differences in the native meal of each of these regions. And, some of the ceremonies each region celebrate is exclusive to that particular region.

Cultural diversity truly exists and I'm fascinated by it. I've been able to study some of the differences that exist in people from some regions and it's obvious that these differences have something to do with cultural diversity. Of course, there are moments when it's hard to fit in or understand some things that are practiced by each region due to the diversity in culture.

Some see the difference in culture and use it as basis for misunderstanding, mistreatment and chaos. For me, I see it as one of those elements that plays its part in making humans complex. I'm genuinely never bothered about being in the same room with someone from a different culture.

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop or Comma.

Very true. It's a very complex conversation and it's always nice to see when people are open minded about listening and having conversation about cultural differences with people from a different culture.
