How About We Celebrate Women Everyday?

Today is March 8th, a day titled International Women's Day to celebrate our women yearly. I started my day the usual way and totally forgot that today is set aside worldwide as significant for my gender folks. I wondered why women should be celebrated?

I ask this question because I believe women should be celebrated everyday and not on one specific date. But I understand the reasoning behind the date. How did March 8th come to be? In 1910, Copenhagen hosted the second International Conference of Working Women. Clara Zetkin, German Marxist theorist and activist, proposed the concept of International Women's Day. She recommended that every year on Women's Day a celebration be held in every country to honour women's fight for their demands.

I'll say Clara Zetkin did good and since then, this date has been significant. A day the world spreads the message of gender equality and working towards a better society where there is no gender bias.

Despite these efforts towards gender equality and bias, the opposites are still prevalent in our society. Some may argue that we have come a long way from how it used to be in the 80s and 90s. But I will argue that we should have done better by now.

We live in an advancing, modern world. Still I see workplaces where preferences are given to the male gender and they earn more for a position and responsibilities that the woman also undertakes. When the women take steps to challenge the system and fight for what she is entitled to, she is confronted with road blocks on all sides.

Are we merely speaking without acting?

I think it's time to act and make this date mean something more. March 8 should represent a day where the progress of gender equality and bias is measured, a day where these issues are visited as part of history and not what is widespread and prevalent.

We have much more work to do and a long way to go to upholding March 8th.

Our women spread themselves thin to make our world meaningful and thus should be celebrated. Our young ones should be educated and protected in every way. They should be taught to stand up for themselves and what they believe in. Our older ones should be respected and praised for their efforts so far. They should be encouraged to keep blazing the trail for the women folk.

Thanks for visiting!

Happy Women's Day!

It's true, women's efforts should be celebrated every day. Today, March 8, we commemorate the brave women who came before us, who fought for equality. Although we have come a long way, there is still a long way to go, but it makes me happy to see the progress that is being made every day thanks to the work of great women who stand up for their opinions in different areas of society.💪🏻
