NEWBIES INITIATIVE TASK 3 - MY HIVE KEYS AND SECURITY
Hello, Hive community members! I'm excited to be a part of the newbies initiative program's third task. I must say it has been an intriguing one; due to the creators of this fantastic and educational program, I have learned a lot in such a little time.
Security
Security is really important; everyone wants to feel safe and secure, and we also want our belongings to be safe. Security is critical at a site like Hive to protect your blockchain assets.
Hive Keys
On Hive, there are various keys, each with its unique purpose. All of this is done to ensure that your account runs smoothly and safely.
MEMO KEY: This key is used to transmit and receive encrypted and private messages. This is the key that is rarely used.
POSTING KEY: is used to create posts, comments, upvotes, downvotes, and reblogs. The posting key is one of the most commonly utilized keys in the blockchain.
ACTIVE KEY: Also known as the transaction key, this key is used to power up and down Hive, as well as to convert one coin on the Hive blockchain to another.
OWNER KEY: This is the most powerful key; it can be used to reset all of the other keys as well as restore an account; I'll show you how to do so in the following section of this piece.
MASTER KEY: Master key is very significant in hive since it is used to produce all other passwords. Master key can also be used to retrieve accounts or passwords. The master key is the first key you'll get when you sign up for a hive account.
How do I keep my keys safe?
The easiest approach to keep your keys, in my opinion, is to have them in both softcopy and hardcopy. Write them down on a piece of paper and put them away where only you will have access to them. Additionally, the file containing them could be saved to your phone, cloud storage, or other location. And, if you're someone who easily gives out their phone, I recommend changing the file name to something inconspicuous that only you can decrypt. But it's just a piece of advice.
Account Recovery
Recovery of an account simply means regaining total control of your account following the loss of your keys or the occurrence of malicious activity, for example. You must first look for your recovery account. This is a Hive account that is linked to yours for recovery purposes. To do so, go to https://hiveblocks.com/@username, type in your username, then scroll down. If you want, you can change your recovery account. If you have to switch, make sure it's a user or someone on the chain you're familiar with and can trust with your life.
Go to https://reazuliqbal.com/HiveAccountRecovery/ and click "Recover Account," then generate a new password, which will give you a new (public) owner key. The key is subsequently sent to your trustee, who is in charge of your recovery account. Fill in the remaining information and click Recover Account. And your account has been restored; please do not lose it again!!
