After voting, removing the vote or downvoting does not return the misplaced voting power. We usually don't bother unless there is a good reason for it to be zeroed.
If you catch a mistake like this before the votes come in, you can update the post with #sbi-skip and that should keep the bot from voting on it.

The #sbi-skip would be a tag on the post itself, correct?
It could be either a tag on the post or text in the post. The latter is more reliable for weird "tech debt" reasons.
